Katy Perry responded to accusations made by Ruby Rose, calling them false and harmful. In a statement released Tuesday, Perry denied claims of sexual assault made by the actress.
Ruby, who is now 40, shared on social media that the incident involving the 41-year-old singer happened when she was in her early 20s at a Melbourne nightclub. She said it had taken her 20 years to feel comfortable talking about it publicly.
A spokesperson for Katy Perry responded to Ruby Rose’s claims in a statement to the Daily Mail, calling them false and harmful. They described the allegations circulating on social media as ‘dangerous reckless lies’.
Ms. Rose frequently makes serious claims about people on social media, but those accused have consistently denied her allegations.
Ruby shared a post on Threads claiming that Katy Perry sexually assaulted her at Spice Market nightclub in Melbourne, and expressed a dismissive attitude towards Perry’s opinions.
Ruby explained that she was just in her early twenties when the events occurred, and is now forty years old. She shared that it’s taken her nearly twenty years to feel comfortable speaking about it publicly.
I’m incredibly thankful to have lived long enough to discover who I am, but it’s a stark reminder of the lasting effects of trauma and sexual assault. Thank you for acknowledging me and my experience.
This isn’t the first time Ruby has publicly criticized Katy Perry. Back in 2017, she famously called Katy’s song “Swish Swish” “purposeful poop.”
She quickly took back what she said, posting on X that being unkind ‘doesn’t suit me and leaves me feeling dirty’.
Being unkind creates far more problems than you might think, and it really bothers me when bullies aren’t held responsible for their actions. It makes me want to speak up, but I feel like it’s not my responsibility to do so.
Katy Perry was once one of the world’s biggest pop stars, but her recent music hasn’t been as successful, and her career has been declining.
She received negative media attention in April after a highly publicized kiss of the ground upon her return from space. Some public relations professionals even speculated this could severely damage her career.
After the excitement surrounding her space trip calmed down, Katy experienced personal heartbreak when she and her fiancé, Orlando Bloom, broke up.
Even though Katy has been going through a difficult time personally, she’s continued to perform on her Lifetimes Tour, traveling across five continents. She is currently dating former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
She’s also currently suing the veteran who sold her a $15 million home in Montecito, California, five years ago, and is seeking nearly $5 million in damages.
The celebrity purchased the house from Carl Westcott in 2020. However, shortly after, Westcott – the founder of 1-800-Flowers – attempted to cancel the sale, arguing he wasn’t mentally capable of signing the contract because of pain medication he was taking.
When he changed his mind about the deal, it led to a lawsuit regarding the property’s sale, and the judge ultimately sided with Katy.
The singer is now requesting the court order Westcott to pay her nearly $4.7 million to cover the financial losses she claims resulted from his prolonged legal battle over the property sale.
Ruby became well-known for her part in the Netflix series Orange Is the New Black, and later played the lead in The CW’s Batwoman, though she only starred in that show for one season.
The actress stated she experienced poor working conditions on the show. She alleged that Peter Roth, the former chairman of Warner Bros. Television, pressured her to return to work after neck surgery and authorized a private investigator to look into her personal life.
In September, Ruby criticized actress Sydney Sweeney, holding her responsible for the poor opening weekend performance of the film Christy.
Ruby strongly criticized Sydney after facing backlash for her Republican beliefs from many celebrities with more liberal viewpoints.
In a social media post, she criticized Sydney, stating she was initially cast as ‘Cherry’ (Christy) and that the original cast was almost entirely LGBTQ+. She then alleged that Sydney is prejudiced against gay people.
