Beloved DC TV Show Will Stream for Free After Netflix Exit

For years, The CW partnered with Netflix, making Netflix the exclusive streaming home for most of its shows, including many based on DC Comics. While it was expected these shows would eventually move to HBO Max, news broke today revealing a new streaming home for at least one popular CW series.

Pluto TV is adding several TV shows that used to stream on Netflix. The free streaming service, which already offers a variety of shows and channels like regular TV, will now include the 2012 superhero series Arrow.

Arrow, which ran for eight seasons, was inspired by the DC Comics character Green Arrow. The series follows Oliver Queen, a wealthy man who returns to his city after being stranded for five years. He discovers the corruption his family contributed to and dedicates himself to fixing it, becoming a vigilante similar to Robin Hood and gathering a team of helpers along the way.

Arrow unexpectedly became a huge hit and had a big impact on television. It paved the way for other superhero shows like The Flash and Supergirl, and ultimately created a connected universe – known as the Arrowverse – that brought together all the DC Comics-based movies and TV series.

Why Pluto TV acquiring Arrow is a big deal

After the DC Universe streaming service ended, many expected shows from the ‘Arrowverse’ to move to HBO Max when their Netflix contracts ran out. This happened with newer DC/CW series like ‘Batwoman’ and ‘Superman & Lois,’ which weren’t included in the original agreement. But now that ‘Arrow’ is going to Pluto TV, that expectation is being reconsidered.

With Paramount owning Pluto TV and potentially acquiring Warner Bros, the future is uncertain. However, this situation is still frustrating for superhero fans who want all the Arrowverse shows in one place. Currently, Pluto TV is limited to viewers in the Americas and Europe, potentially excluding others. The good news is DC fans won’t have to pay anything extra to enjoy Oliver Queen’s story.

Arrow will be available exclusively on Pluto TV beginning May 1, 2026.
