There’s nothing Bryan Cranston won’t do in the name of art.
I was so excited to see Bryan Cranston on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” this week! He was talking about the new “Malcolm in the Middle” revival on Hulu, which finally came out on Friday. It’s been almost 20 years since we last saw the original series, and it’s amazing to have it back!
It was so fun watching Colbert take Bryan Cranston back through all the crazy physical stuff he used to do on ‘Malcolm in the Middle’! They reminisced about all the wild stunts he got talked into doing back then, and it was hilarious remembering those moments.
Bryan Cranston, best known as Hal from Malcolm in the Middle, went to incredible lengths for his comedy routines. He once let himself be tied to the front of a moving bus, was completely covered in blue paint, and even drank a mixture of raw eggs and ground meat on television. He also learned to rollerskate in a disco style and performed to Queen’s “We Are the Champions” while wearing a spandex suit.
During a segment on ‘The Late Show with Stephen Colbert’, Bryan Cranston shared a story about getting hurt while filming a popular episode of the sitcom ‘Malcolm in the Middle’. Colbert showed a funny picture of Cranston covered in bees, which prompted the actor to explain what happened on set.
He explained that he was covered in around 60,000 bees and only got stung twice. He added that when you’re surrounded by that many bees, you shouldn’t be shocked if you get stung a couple of times.
Cranston explained that when he was stung by a bee, his first reaction was, ‘Oh, I think I got stung!’ The bee handler, prepared to remove the stinger, asked where it was. Cranston replied, ‘On my scrotum.’
“And he goes, ‘You’re on your own.”
Cranston explained that the stunt team attracted the bees to the actor by using the queen bee’s scent, known as pheromones.
He explained that the team carefully applied the substance with an eyedropper all over his face, and used insect repellent to keep the bees away from that area.
Colbert showed a sequence of photos featuring the actor naked, modestly covered by an open newspaper, while Jane Kaczmarek, playing his wife Lois, shaved his back.
“And here you are being shaved completely,” Colbert joked.
“As one does,” Cranston said.
The new four-part revival of “Malcolm in the Middle,” titled “Life’s Still Unfair,” launched on Hulu Friday. According to the show’s creator, Linwood Boomer, Bryan Cranston was the one who originally pitched the idea for the reunion. The revival features the return of beloved cast members, including Cranston as Hal, Frankie Muniz as Malcolm, and Jane Kaczmarek as Lois, along with a few of Malcolm’s brothers.
