On May 8, 2020, while half of the world was quietly grappling with pandemic-induced lockdowns, a positive event took place that day: Kimchiworm launched their “I HOPE YOU STEP ON A LEGO” modification for Monster Hunter World, bringing a little more joy to the global gaming community.
If you weren’t already hinted by its name, this mod transforms the game’s capturing device for monsters, known as the shock trap, into a lethal building block instead of just a tool for capturing creatures.
Because monsters typically need to step on electric shock traps for them to function and unleash their powers, we’re essentially piercing their delicate feet with small plastic spikes. These spikes deliver jolts of paralyzing electricity. It makes one wonder if we are the actual monstrous ones in this scenario.
In June 2022, they introduced an identical mod for Monster Hunter Rise that hunters have been eagerly awaiting as it significantly enhances gameplay quality. This essential feature was conspicuously absent from Monster Hunter Wilds upon its release last month, but now, we can all enjoy it without delay.
On March 23rd, Kimchiworm introduced the modification to Wilds yet again, turning my previously dull and uninteresting shock trap into a lethal plastic square. The modder’s work is always consistent, and I can’t help but admire their commitment to this minor but crucial aspect of the gameplay.
Currently, there appears to be a minor issue with Kimchiworm’s latest version of their mod, Rise. Previously, users could choose from various color options such as red, green, blue, shock-trap-gold. However, it seems that only one final color option is available now. As someone who appreciates the red bricks, I’m eagerly waiting for an update to restore the color palette.
