MTV Host Matt Pinfield Awakens From Coma, Speaks Out Amid Legal Battle Over Fortune
Recently, it’s come to light that Matt Pinfield, the ex-host of MTV, had an unexpected and heartbreaking incident on January 6th, when he experienced a severe stroke. This unfortunate event left him in a coma.
Immediately following his stay at the hospital, his daughter Jessica initiated a temporary conservatorship, marking the start of a legal dispute concerning his financial holdings.
In those legal records, it was declared by her and her sister Maya that they had concerns over his financial situation and possessions, as his girlfriend held control of his accounts at the time.
This week, Pinfield himself provided a health update to The Hollywood Reporter, stating, “Hey everyone, I’m still kicking!
As the renowned lifestyle connoisseur that you may remember from the iconic MTV show, 120 Minutes in the 90s, let me share some personal insights with you: I’ve encountered a challenging phase, one where I found myself unresponsive for an extended two-month period. However, I’m not one to back down easily – I’m determined to bounce back stronger than ever before. Stay tuned, as I continue my journey towards recovery and wellness.
It seemed as if I was about to bid farewell to my friends forever, as the physicians had little hope that I would regain speech or mobility.
Meanwhile conversing with the outlet, Pinfield affectionately acknowledged his daughter Jessica for her heroic act in effectively taking care of him and thereby essentially saving his life when she assumed guardianship because of his situation.
‘She’s the one who saved my life. She protected me,’ the SoCal Sound DJ expressed to THR.
Matt went on to reveal that he had almost lost his life and had to fight off pneumonia, which required him to be connected to a ventilator.
Upon regaining consciousness at the hospital, the celebrity found himself engaged in discussions about music with his closest friends.
My companions mentioned that I had talked extensively about ‘A Whiter Shade of Pale’ and they found it difficult to follow my conversation. Essentially, they commented, “He’s still sharp as a tack.
Towards the end of February, Pinfield was discharged from the Intensive Care Unit, yet he’s still undergoing recovery at a rehab facility in Los Angeles.
Although the TV personality has been absent from his social media platforms for a while, he acknowledged receiving heartfelt messages of support from friends and fellow celebrities following his stroke.
I really appreciate everyone who sent their good wishes my way. The warmth and support from the community truly helped me make it through this tough time.

Matt mentioned that it’s possible he might be discharged from the rehab facility by the end of this month.
He mentioned, “I’m planning on taking a break for rejuvenation. Following this, I’ll resume my radio shows and continue with my passion of amusing listeners by playing music.
Shortly following Pinfield’s hospitalization in January, his daughter Jessica sought a temporary conservatorship due to concerns that he was unable to make sound decisions.
According to the legal records acquired by TMZ, both Jessica and her sister Maya expressed worries about Matt’s partner, Kara Brown, potentially gaining access to his financial accounts and the possibility of her making withdrawals from them.
In a counteraction to Jessica being granted temporary guardianship over Pinfield, Brown, Matt’s sibling Glenn, submitted personal court documents.
Just hours prior to his stroke, Pinfield uploaded a picture on Instagram, accompanied by this message: “Kicking off another week with heartfelt appreciation for being immersed in fantastic people, music that transforms lives, and moments filled with unforgettable memories that I never fail to cherish.
‘Here to another week-another day-open heart and open mind. Let’s rock!’
In my own life experiences, I had an incredibly close call back in 2018 – a tragic accident where I was hit by a vehicle as I crossed the road near my residence in Hollywood. Thankfully, I survived, but it served as a stark reminder of the importance of street safety and awareness.

With a forceful impact, his forehead struck the windshield first and then he crashed onto the pavement below, causing a deep gash on his skull and fracturing his leg in two separate areas.
Or,
He collided with the windscreen head-first and fell to the ground hard, resulting in a severe wound on his skull and a leg fracture in two locations.
Both sentences convey the same information while using different words and sentence structures.
Apart from that, he’s had issues with heart ailments and drug addiction, causing him to check into rehabilitation facilities back in early 2017, as reported by The San Francisco Chronicle.
Matt mentioned that he had atrial fibrillation, which is an irregular heart rhythm. Consuming alcohol while dealing with this condition wasn’t wise. It also turned out that he had been given too much medication.
Los Angeles radio station KCSN additionally issued a statement amid Pinfield’s health crisis
It read: ‘The SoCal Sound’s legendary DJ Matt Pinfield will be taking a temporary leave of absence.
‘We’re completely behind Matt, eagerly looking forward to having his vibrant insights about rock n’ roll return to the airwaves as soon as possible.’
Pinfield hosted 120 Minutes from 1995 to 1999 on MTV and from 2011 to 2013 on MTV2.
In the 1980s, he kicked off his professional journey as a disc jockey, working at both radio stations and clubs in New Jersey. Additionally, during this time, he was involved with MTV’s 120 Minutes, as well as TRL and VH1.
Following his departure from MTV in 1999, he then went on to host the USA Network show called Farmclub.com. Subsequently, from 2001 to 2006, he served as the vice president of A&R and artist development for Columbia Records.
While attending Columbia, he collaborated with the then-obscure rock group The Killers, who went on to write the hit song “All These Things That I’ve Done” from their 2004 album, which was inspired by him.

During this period, Pinfield was engaged with the U.S. Army, contributing to a mentorship program designed for soldiers who were musicians and had been injured or suffered from PTSD upon their return from Iraq.
He later worked at New York radio station WRXP 101.9FM.
In 2016, he was employed by the Lithium station of SiriusXM Radio, and in the subsequent year, he released an autobiography titled “All These Things That I’ve Done: My Unbelievable, Implausible Rock Journey.
In March 2024, Pinfield became the new afternoon drivetime host for KCSN in LA.
