The Best Set for Gathering in Monster Hunter Wilds (Feb, 2025)
In Monster Hunter Wilds, there’s an abundance of resources up for grabs, not just from slain monsters but also scattered across the various game regions. From ores and assorted herbs to other valuable finds, it might be wise to enhance your collection efficiency to avoid spending too much time gathering. This guide will walk you through some useful items that can boost your resource-gathering expeditions.
The Best Set for Gathering (Feb 2025)
To kick things off, let’s discuss some essential competencies you should have before we dive in. While there aren’t many to focus on at this moment, mastering them will greatly enhance your overall productivity or make the entire process smoother, not just during the collection stage.
Based on where you’re currently at in the game, it might be some time before you can unlock all top-tier features. Here’s what I recommend focusing on for now: Enhancing these particular skills:
- Botanist – This will increase the number of herbs and various other items that you gather from the wild.
- Geologist – This can increase how much you get from certain gathering nodes, such as bones or mining outcrops.
- Entomologist – This will let you carve small insect monsters rather than just destroying their bodies after a kill.
- Forager’s Luck – It is a group skill that gives you a better chance of finding rare gathering points.
- Intimidator – Although not essential, it can be nice to have if you want to have very laid back gathering runs as smaller enemies will just ignore you completely.
As an enthusiast, I can’t help but share my insights on some top-notch equipment that seasoned gatherers frequently suggest. Here are a few essential items along with the necessary components for their creation (excluding monetary aspects):
1. A sturdy and reliable Gathering Bag: Crucial for holding your collected resources, this bag is often made of durable materials like leather or reinforced fabric.
2. A Sharp Pickaxe: Essential for mining hard minerals found deep within the earth. The pickaxe’s material can vary, but steel and obsidian are common choices.
3. A Quality Woodcutter’s Axe: Ideal for felling trees and harvesting wood, this tool should be strong enough to handle the task without breaking or bending.
4. A Strong Fishing Rod: For those who prefer to gather resources from the water, a robust fishing rod is a must-have. The rod should be made of sturdy materials like bamboo or fiberglass.
5. A Well-crafted Net: Useful for catching smaller aquatic creatures or trapping insects, a well-made net is an indispensable tool in any gatherer’s arsenal. It’s usually constructed from lightweight yet durable materials such as nylon or mesh.
- Head Slot: Sild Hood – This will give you level 3 Botanist in a single item, making it one of the absolute best gathering helmets in the game right now. It also has Forager’s Luck on it, so we only need two more to activate the set bonus.
- 2x Sild Cotton
- 3x Guardian Seikret Feather+
- Chest Slot: Melahoa Jacket – This item will give you Tool Specialist level 3. More importantly, for our use case, it also has the Forager’s Luck group skill on it. This makes it our second piece with the effect.
- 1x Great Hibiscus
- 1x Guardian Seikret Feather+
- 1x Lightcrystal
- Hand Slot: Leather Gloves – This is a fairly basic item, but it will provide you with one point of Botanist. This is worth taking just to completely top off the Botanist skill.
- 1x Guardian Pelt
- 1x Machalite Ore
- Waist Slot: Suja Sash – This item has Divine Blessing level 3 in it, but what we need it for is the fact that it has Forager’s Luck as well. Now that we have our third piece of this group skill, you should now have it activated and have an improved chance of finding rare gathering points.
- 3x Suja Textiles
- 5x Fucium Ore – We have a guide on where to find more of this resource too.
- Legs Slot: Azuz Pants – The Azuz Pants will provide you with Geologist level 3, making it an extremely valuable item for gathering as it completely maxes out that skill on its lonesome. This also imparts Forager’s Luck on your character, so you are free to use replace the waist item with anything else if you want.
- 1x Azuz Tanned Leather
- 2x Firestone
- Talisman Slot: Intimidator Charm III – This will give you level 3 Intimidator, which is a nice little bonus that will prevent certain monsters from disrupting your ideally peaceful gathering runs. Not really required, but again, nice to have.
- 1x Guardian Rathalos Tail
- 2x Firecell Stone
- 3x Guardian Rathalos Wing
- 5x Guardian Rathalos Scale+
Taking everything into account, you might want to think about adding some specific embellishments to enhance your performances. Below are a few ornaments you could experiment with to elevate the collection of items you’ve already got:
- Ranger Jewel [1] – This gives you Outdoorsman level 1, which will improve your fishing skill, among others. This is nice to have if you plan on going fishing out in the wilds in between your foraging and mining.
- Specimen Jewel [1] – This will provide you with Entomologist level 1, which will allow you to start carving small insect monsters rather than just completely disintegrating them on kill.
- Botany Jewel [1] – Use this top off the Botanist skill if you prefer to use an alternative item over the Leather Gloves. Otherwise, you do not really need this since the Sild Hood and Leather Gloves combo will max it out already.
- Adapt Jewel [1] – This gives you a level of Adaptability, which could be useful if you find yourself contending with certain harsh environmental conditions while gathering stuff.
- Mirewalker Jewel [1] – This provides a level of the Aquatic/Oilslit Mobility skill, which might come in handy in certain areas as it will keep you from being slowed down by bodies of varying liquids.
When venturing out for gathering, these are the top-tier equipment and jewels to take into account, but keep in mind they have a high rank, which means if you’re still relatively new to the game, it might be more beneficial to focus on developing certain skills rather than these items as they may not be accessible to you just yet.
From my perspective, it’s essential to emphasize that this isn’t the absolute “best” setup, as tailoring it to your unique requirements is crucial. Additionally, who knows what new gear might emerge in future updates? That said, I must confess that some of the items in this configuration are simply unparalleled in the current version of the game – at least, as far as we’re aware right now!
Before embarking on a resource-gathering expedition, it’s important to consider various factors. For instance, some gathering nodes might be more plentiful at specific times of the year or day. To determine the optimal time for harvesting your desired resources, take a look at the environmental information provided in the map.
