How to fix Moster Hunter Wilds textures not loading

The popular game Monster Hunter Wilds has launched to great fanfare, yet numerous players are encountering various performance problems within it.

It’s not unexpected that Monster Hunter World has been thriving on Steam, with more than a million players each day since its release on February 28. However, the game isn’t without its challenges, such as the problems encountered in multiplayer mode and noticeable performance difficulties.

If specific spots in your Monster Hunter World game aren’t appearing as expected, or if textures fail to load, here are a few solutions you might want to explore.

All fixes for Monster Hunter Wilds textures not loading

Since there’s no one solution for the texture issues in Monster Hunter Wilds, it’s worth trying all potential solutions before opting to reinstall the game or submit a support ticket.

Run the game as administrator and turn off compatibility mode

  • Head to the game’s folder (usually located at C:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\MonsterHunterWilds.
  • Right-click on the MonsterHunterWilds application and uncheck the compatibility mode if enabled. Then, check the Run this program as an administrator box.
  • Hit Apply and restart your system before launching the game.

Activating the compatibility setting can help resolve issues with the game freezing during shader loading. When you reach the main menu, you won’t need this compatibility mode anymore, so feel free to deactivate it to allow the game to function as designed.

Delete the shader cache

Go back to the folder of the game one more time. In there, you’ll find a file labeled “shader.cache2.“. Delete this file and then run the game. This will cause it to recompile your shaders. Depending on your system setup, this process may take around 10 minutes or longer.

Move your game files to the fastest drive

The probability of a slow Solid State Drive (SSD) affecting your textures in Monster Hunter Wilds is relatively low, but addressing this issue has resolved a similar problem I encountered. If you haven’t installed Monster Hunter Wilds on an NVMe drive yet, create a new Steam library on that drive and then adjust the storage settings via Steam to move the game.

Swap your DLSS

A gamer shares they successfully improved the texture quality in Monster Hunter Wilds by changing their Deep Learning Super Sampling (DLSS). Here’s how you can replicate this process if you have an NVIDIA GPU:

1. First, ensure your graphics driver is updated to the latest version.
2. In your game settings, enable DLSS. This option may be found under ‘Graphics’, ‘Video Settings’, or similar sections depending on the game interface.
3. Restart the game for the changes to take effect.
4. Enjoy the improved texture quality in Monster Hunter Wilds!

  1. Download the DLSS Swapper here (click on the Assets to get a drop-down menu and select the exe to download).
  2. Now, Windows Defender or your anti-virus will pop up while installing the application. Ignore the warning, as it’s a safe application, and click on Run Anyway.
  3. Launch DLSS Swapper and click on Monster Hunter Wilds.
  4. Click on the DLSS drop-down menu and select v3.1.1 (v2).
  5. Confirm by clicking on Swap.

If your textures vanish exclusively during certain missions, it seems you’ll need to be patient until the developers roll out a hotfix, as this problem could be localized to that specific region of the game. Additionally, reaching out to your platform’s customer service for further assistance is recommended, though such issues are often resolved with updates within the first few weeks following a major release.
