How to Power Clash in Monster Hunter Wilds
In the latest addition to the Monster Hunter series, titled Monster Hunter Wilds, players are presented with a multitude of fresh moves and gameplay mechanics. This update offers veteran fans exciting new strategies for battling formidable beasts. One such tactic introduced is referred to as Power Clash.
Unique Attacks Known as Power Strikes Can Exclusively Be Executed by Specific Weapons. If Successful, They Forcefully Push Back Large Monsters, Leaving Them Vulnerable for Follow-Up Moves. This Is How They Function.
How to Perform A Power Clash
During intense battles, unique situations called Power Clashes occur. These are fast-paced one-on-one confrontations between the Hunter and the monster. A Power Clash is initiated when an invisible meter is filled after successfully blocking or perfectly timing blocks on the monster’s melee attacks. To set off a Power Clash with the monster, Hunters must perfectly time and block a specific attack.
In simpler terms, both Guards and Perfect Guards contribute to filling up the unseen Power Clash meter, but Perfect Guards do it faster.
As a devoted fan, I’d like to share some insights about the thrilling encounters known as Power Clashes in our favorite game. These intense showdowns occur when specific attacks from certain monsters, like the Chatacabra, are executed. Each monster typically has just one such attack. For instance, the Chatacabra raises its whole body and slams its left arm against the Hunter with a powerful strike. If this move is perfectly guarded, it triggers a Power Clash, but only if the Power Clash meter was filled through successful guards and perfect guards earlier. The key here is to be prepared, anticipate these special attacks, and maintain a high guarding game to fill that crucial meter!
Certain monsters lack the ability to engage in a Power Clash with you, making it impossible for a Power Clash to occur between you.
In a battle of strength with monsters, players must rapidly press the attack key, much like in quick-time events. If successful, the monster gets pushed back and becomes completely stunned. However, if they fail, the player will fall down, and the monster won’t be affected at all. Power Clashes do inflict some damage, but their primary function is to initiate a guaranteed stun.
During a Power Clash, the monster and the Hunter are locked into a one-on-one battle, immobilizing the monster and stopping it from making any moves or attacks for the given period. This feature proves particularly beneficial in multiplayer games, as players’ co-op partners can deal significant damage to the monster without fear of retaliation or evasion by the monster.
Blocking ranged attacks doesn’t fill up the invisible Power Clash meter.
How to Power Clash Multiple Times

After the initial Power Clash occurs, instigating another one becomes significantly tougher. This is due to the fact that the hidden Power Clash gauge requires more Guard and Perfect Guard actions to be filled up the second time around. In some cases, it may require up to five times as many Guard and Perfect Guard actions to initiate a second Power Clash compared to the first one. However, this ratio can vary depending on the specific monster in question.
As an enthusiast, I’d like to clarify that offensive attacks aren’t equivalent to power clashes. They’re unique mechanics with distinct sets of rules.
How to Guard and Perfect Guard
Hunters have the ability to execute a “Guard” by pressing and holding down the ‘R’ key on PC, ‘R2’ button on PlayStation, or the ‘RT’ button on Xbox. To perform a “Perfect Guard”, press the Guard key right as an enemy’s attack is about to connect.
Among the 14 weapon types in MH Wilds, just six of them have the ability to Guard. These are: Great Sword, Sword and Shield, Lance, Gunlance, Charge Blade, and Heavy Bowgun. It is only these six weapons that can be utilized for Power Clashing.
