Having trouble beating Gypceros in Monster Hunter Worlds? Check out our guide for proven tactics on how to conquer this Wyvern.
In Monster Hunter Wilds, Gypceros is a type of Bird Wyvern found exclusively at High Rank. Facing this monster can be tough if you’re unaware of its vulnerabilities, illnesses, and attack routines. To boost your chances of overcoming Gypceros, this guide will provide insights into these crucial aspects, ensuring a more successful hunt for you!
Gypceros Overview
Gypceros has been present in Monster Hunter games since the initial installment of the series, so if you’re an experienced hunter, chances are you’ve encountered this creature before. This monster boasts a diverse array of attacks, but beware: its venomous spit can inflict significant damage on the hunter if not handled carefully. Throughout the fight, it’s crucial to stay agile and avoid the poisonous assaults. Additionally, seize opportunities to exploit its vulnerabilities and weaknesses to gain an advantage in combat.
How To Unlock Gypceros in Monster Hunter Wilds
You’ll come across the Gypceros for the first time during a side mission named “Beware the Gypceros,” located in the Windward Plains. To initiate this task, locate and interact with Zatoh at the base camp within this area. Do remember that this assignment becomes accessible only in High Rank, and you’ll need to achieve a high Hunter Rank (roughly Level 10) before you can embark on this mission.
Additionally, you have the choice to battle the Gypceros by taking up a side mission within the game called “The Mysterious Poison.” During this quest, you’ll ultimately track down and hunt a Wyvern creature.
Where To Find Gypceros in Monster Hunter Wilds
In various parts of the game, you’ll encounter Gypceros in locations such as the Icy Peaks, Breezy Fields, Pump Station Terrain, and the Remnants of Wyveria.
Possible Turf Wars for Gypceros
In High Rank, the monster can engage in turf wars with the following monsters:
- Nerscylla
- Rey Dau
- Arkveld
Gypceros Weaknesses
As a fan who loves exploring the game world, I’d suggest focusing on Fire and Ice elemental attacks if you want to deal maximum damage to the monsters. They seem particularly vulnerable to these elements. However, be mindful of using Thunder attacks against Gypceros, as its rubbery skin seems to provide robust protection from such attacks.
Regarding the ailments that work best on the beast, let’s clarify: It’s advisable to steer clear of poison attacks entirely. On the other hand, a range of status conditions like Paralysis, Sleep, Stun, Blastblight, and Exhaust are highly effective in controlling the monster during combat.
Gypceros Elemental Weaknesses
- Fire
- Ice
Gypceros Status Weaknesses
- Stun
- Sleep
- Paralysis
- Blastblight
As a passionate player, I’d advise steering clear of thunder-related weapons or thunder-elemental attacks during the fight. They don’t seem to be effective in reducing the monster’s health, and might even prolong the battle needlessly.
Gypceros Weak Points
In Monster Hunter Wilds, Gypceros’ most vulnerable area is its head. Since this part can be broken, it’s best to launch your initial attacks there. Once the head is shattered, Gypceros won’t be able to use its flash move. This will significantly simplify the battle, especially if your hunter lacks strong stun resistance. Additionally, you can aim for its left and right wings to inflict extra damage.
Best Weapons for Gypceros in Monster Hunter Wilds
Targeting Gypceros’s vulnerable spot on its head might be tricky with short-range weapons like Long Swords. Instead, it would be more effective to focus on ranged weapons for this fight. These will allow you to accurately hit the weak point and gain an advantage in the battle. Additionally, consider using Fire-damage weapons to defeat the monster swiftly.
Here are some weapons that you can consider using:
- Gun Lance
- Bow Gun
- Bows
- Broad Sword
Items To Carry for the Battle
You should have plenty of the following items when going into a fight with Gypceros:
- Health potions
- Mega health potions
- Watermoss
- Herbal medicine
- Antidotes
- Pitfall traps
How To Beat Gypceros in MH Wilds
Among Gypceros’ attacks, none is as devastating as its flash from its head. If your character lacks sufficient stun resistance, it will be immobilized following this attack. Being unable to move means you can’t dodge the subsequent powerful attack that ensues after the flash. To avoid such a situation, it’s best to target Gypceros’ vulnerable head from the start. Never let the monster take control of the battlefield. Instead, launch a series of Fire attacks on its head area, causing significant damage.
During combat, it’s tough to move around freely due to the toxic pools of water left behind by Gypceros. These can be found throughout the battlefield and will cause poison damage if you step into them. A smart strategy is to shoot Watermoss at these areas with your sling because this item removes the poisonous puddles. You can find Watermoss in the same locations where the fight takes place. If you get poisoned, remember to use antidotes immediately.
As a devoted admirer, I’d like to share some insights about Gypceros that go beyond its stunning and toxic capabilities. This beast is no pushover when it comes to physical attacks. Its powerful tail can lash out if you attempt an attack from behind. When facing it head-on, be cautious as it can peck the ground forcefully, causing severe harm if you’re not vigilant. Moreover, beware of its devastating slam attack, particularly after it stuns you with its flash.
Just like any battle in the game, injuries will show up on different parts of Gypceros’s body during combat. Be sure to utilize Focus Mode to target these vulnerable spots for extra damage.
Tips To Defeat Gyceros
- Use Fire-based weapons or attacks on the monster’s head, right wing, and left wing. For its front legs, switch to Ice-based attacks, as these cause more damage compared to Fire types.
- If you are willing to take advantage of traps during the battle, make sure you only place Pitfall Traps since all other kinds are ineffective against the beast.
- Before destroying Gypceros’s head, whenever you see the monster prepare its flash attack, you should take cover to prevent being stunned.
- The monster has a minor wind pressure special attack. You can counter this effect by arming yourself with equipment that adds to your Windproof skill. Even at Level 1 of the skill, it negates all effects from minor wind pressure attacks.
