Monster Hunter Wilds PC players make Steam reviews their 15th weapon as Capcom’s RE Engine delivers another Dragon’s Dogma 2-sized disaster: “Very immersive game. You can cook a well-done steak on your GPU”
Monster Hunter Wilds has arrived, and it’s achieving some of the highest points on Steam for Capcom – an achievement despite receiving less-than-stellar reviews due to its performance issues. Players are submitting Steam reviews as if they were their 15th weapon, hoping that Capcom will improve the PC version.
This game is incredibly engaging, as one humorous Steam reviewer puts it: ‘You can grill a perfectly cooked steak on your graphics card while playing, and the warm gusts from your PC fans make you feel like you’re in a desert. Keep a sandbag nearby to simulate the experience by occasionally throwing sand into the air.’
1. The game is incredibly impressive, yet its optimization leaves much to be desired – it’s the worst I’ve encountered. Another reviewer pointed out that although similar issues occurred with World, it’s hard to overlook at this stage. I’m not implying the game is poor in quality, but given its current instability, it might be wise to wait for a more polished version before playing.
2. This game is truly remarkable, yet it’s let down by abysmal optimization – it sets a new standard for worst I’ve seen. A serious reviewer notes that while the same problems were present in World, it’s unforgivable at this point. While I’m not saying the game itself is bad, its current state suggests you might want to hold off until a more reliable version is released.
1. “The gameplay is enjoyable, but the performance needs improvement.” (Another observation)
2. “Frames per second shouldn’t be a prerequisite to achieve 60fps. I’ve played games that are visually superior to Wilds and they ran smoothly.” (Alternative rephrasing)
After launch, Capcom has offered suggestions to enhance performance, yet the developers’ statement that they’ve “made our game as polished as possible” doesn’t quite alleviate the current issues at hand.
The game Monster Hunter Wilds is powered by Capcom’s RE Engine, which is often lauded for its performance in games like Resident Evil, Devil May Cry 5, and Street Fighter 6. However, the quality of this engine in open-world games, such as last year’s Dragon’s Dogma 2 and now Monster Hunter Wilds, has not been as impressive. Both games have faced issues on consoles, but these problems are more noticeable on PC, even for players using top-tier hardware.
The current Steam ratings for Monster Hunter Worlds are classified as “mixed,” similar to Dragon’s Dogma 2, and almost every critique focuses on the game’s performance. While I’m certain that Capcom’s solutions to these problems aren’t as simple as a quick fix like “optimize, please,” it’s evident that this performance issue requires attention when it affects so many players.
