Monster Hunter Wilds Best Lance Build Guide
Here’s a concise yet comprehensive breakdown of essential information regarding the Lance in Monster Hunter Wilds, encompassing optimal decoration choices, skills, armor sets, and other key points.
This approach aims to provide you with all the necessary insights about the Lance weapon, making it easier for you to excel in your hunts!
In the Monster Hunter series, The Lance is often underestimated due to its limited mobility and relatively small moveset compared to other weapons. However, when used skillfully, this weapon can match or even exceed other melee weapons in terms of Damage Per Second (DPS). In Monster Hunter Wilds, the Lance has been given some adjustments to enhance its overall performance, making it a more appealing choice among players. A notable feature added is the “Focus Strike” ability for the weapon, called “Victory Thrust,” which makes it an attractive choice for players seeking high DPS options in their builds.
Similarly to the Gunlance, the Lance requires a specific build for optimal performance. In other words, the effectiveness of this weapon largely depends on the abilities and skills you’ve developed in your character. Here’s a detailed guide on how to create an ideal Lance build for Monster Hunter Wilds.
Monster Hunter Wilds Lance Overview
Among all weapon types in the Monster Hunter series, The Lance currently has the least impact per individual attack. However, this hasn’t changed in Monster Hunter Wilds. Despite its previous shortcomings, the Lance has significantly improved with new abilities such as Power Clash and Focus Strike. These enhancements have elevated it from its earlier versions. Furthermore, due to the emphasis on defensive Guard moves, the Lance now delivers more powerful blows, even though its move set is somewhat limited. It’s capable of dealing substantial damage. The new wound system works well with the Lance, similar to how it does with the Gunlance. In fact, the Lance is ideally suited for inflicting wounds, and with Focus Mode, it’s now simpler than ever to strike a monster’s vulnerable areas.
Regardless of the advancements, the Lance continues to face the same drawbacks as its earlier versions, notably mobility issues. Moreover, its damage, excluding the Focus Strike, is not exceptional. Additionally, the Lance has been tailored for a counterattack approach, making it challenging for those who aren’t adept at guard timings. Here’s an overview of the advantages and disadvantages of the Lance in Monster Hunter Wilds:
1. Advantages:
– Excellent defense due to its long reach and shield
– Powerful Thrust attacks and Focus Strikes
– Useful for trapping monsters with Spike Traps
2. Disadvantages:
– Poor mobility compared to other weapons
– Single-hit damage is not impressive outside of the Focus Strike
– Requires precise timing and skill to effectively use its counterattack playstyle
Pros | Cons |
---|---|
Scales incredibly well with elemental damage. | Mobility is severely compromised. |
Offers solid defensive options. | Lacks in terms of single-hit damage (raw). |
Can easily counter monster attacks. | Very limited moveset. |
Best Lance Build in Monster Hunter Wilds
In terms of raw damage output, The Lance may not be exceptionally high. However, it excels in dealing elemental damage, making it a standout choice. While you have flexibility to select any desired element, we’ve opted for the Blast element in this build. Our preference for Blast lies in its ability to significantly boost the burst damage potential. Given the Lance’s rapid attack speed and the Focus Strike, inflicting Blast is relatively straightforward with this weapon type.
Speaking as an enthusiastic fan, let me share some insights about my favorite game, Monster Hunter Wilds. As I pen this piece, it’s clear that Blast is incredibly effective against all monsters in the main game. To make things even more exciting, we’ve added skills like Critical Status and Offensive Guard to amplify the power of our weapons, giving us an edge in our hunts!

Monster Hunter Wilds Best Lance Build Explained
The best Lance build focuses on these primary factors:
- Increased elemental damage.
- Improved Guard.
- Focus on wounds.
Here, you’ll find comprehensive insights about these aspects and their role in the construction of the Lance design:
This section provides a deeper understanding of these elements and their significance in creating the Lance structure:
Increased Elemental Damage
The Lance shines in dealing elemental damage, and we’re enhancing its power by incorporating the Critical Status Jewel together with Blaze Jewel 3. This combination not only boosts the Blast damage but also amplifies the critical hits by adding extra elemental damage. Consequently, this will enhance the overall status effects inflicted on the monster. Additionally, a few Critical/Expert Jewels can be added to boost the Lance’s Critical Chance. But since the Lance is already quite fast-hitting, 20% Crit Chance is more than sufficient.
Improved Guard
The main defense strategy for the Lance character will be using a shield due to limited mobility. To avoid taking damage, blocking attacks with the shield will be your primary method. To enhance guarding abilities in the Lance build, we’ll utilize both Offensive Guard and regular Guard skills. Additionally, Power Clash is crucial for the Lance, and Offensive Guard strengthens this ability, enabling you to deal more knockout blows. To make guards even more effective, consider adding Ironwall jewels to boost their efficiency.
Focus on Wounds
As a dedicated Monster Hunter Wilds gamer, I’ve found that inflicting wounds on monsters is the most effective way to dish out damage. To maximize the Lance’s unique ability to create and destroy these weak spots, I’m utilizing the Flayer and Tenderizer Jewels. On top of that, I’m leveraging the Weakness Exploit skill to amplify the elemental damage inflicted on these wounds. This strategy not only boosts the overall damage but also increases the likelihood of a monster stumbling, particularly after a successful Power Clash or Focus Strike.
How To Use the Lance Build in Monster Hunter Wilds
Here are some tips to properly use the best Lance build in Monster Hunter Wilds:
- As is the case with any other melee weapon, you will always want to start a battle with a mounting attack. Mounting a monster not only lets you create wounds but also gives you a free topple. For a weapon like Lance, topple is a great opportunity to deal some bonus damage, right at the start of a fight. In addition to that, mounting also allows you to transition into a “wall bang”, which deals a ton of damage to the monster if performed correctly.
- With the Lance equipped, never try to dodge attacks, unless you need to reposition. To defend yourself, use the Shield and the Power Guard combo (for heavy attacks). With Offensive Guard equipped, pulling off a successful Power Clash will be quite easy while Guarding a monster’s attack.
- Make sure to go through the Hunter’s Field Guide before setting out on hunts. Since the Lance is an elemental weapon, you’d want to use its elemental properties to full effect. As such, knowing the monster’s elemental weakness is paramount while using a Lance build. You can also keep a second Lance with a different elemental damage equipped on your Secondary Weapon slot.
- Practice the side-step and Perfect Guard at the Training Arena. We cannot stress this step enough. Perfect Guard is the bread and butter for the Lance. To be efficient with the weapon, you will need to master the Guard timings, and the Training Arena is the best place to do so.
