In Monster Hunter Wilds, you’ll discover numerous Optional Quests beyond the main storyline and side missions. Unlike the primary story quests, these optional ones vary in several ways. Some of them are even hidden until you meet specific requirements, such as defeating certain smaller monsters or interacting with an NPC character. This guide compiles all the Optional Quests I’ve come across so far in Monster Hunter Wilds. As new content is introduced through free updates, this guide will be updated accordingly.

Please be aware that this guide contains spoilers for many of the monsters you’ll encounter throughout the main story, high rank, endgame, and beyond. If you prefer to experience the game without knowing what lies ahead, I advise completing the campaign up until the credits at least. For those who don’t mind the spoilers, this serves as your final warning for all optional quests and monsters in Monster Hunter Rise.

What are Optional Quests in Monster Hunter Wilds?

Optional Quests, or optional missions, in Monster Hunter Worlds, offer multiple opportunities to complete them. They typically involve tracking down and defeating a particular monster or group of monsters. There are certain prerequisites for these missions, such as limiting the number of players involved, setting a time limit, requiring High Rank status, and defining failure conditions. These quests differ from Side Missions, which have unique unlocks and rewards associated with different NPC characters. Optional Quests can be beneficial when you need to collect specific monster parts to craft certain gear items.

How to unlock Monster Hunter Wilds Optional Quests

In Monster Hunter Wilds, the simplest method to access Optional Quests is by conversing with NPCs whenever a symbol appears above their head, hunting minor monsters upon entering a fresh area (ensure to repeat this in High Rank if you’re behind on any), and simply continuing to play the game as usual. These quests will continue to unlock throughout the endgame until you reach HR 31 or higher levels.
