“It’s like Avowed has child safety locks on”: Avowed vs Skyrim Heated Comparison While We Wait For the Elder Scrolls 6

Initially, the game was merely declared, but now players have invested substantial hours into it. Consequently, fresh aspects of the game are emerging, such as its overly protective safety system designed to escort you across the map, preventing potentially poor choices.

The unveiling of Avowed has ignited a conversation about its resemblance to Skyrim among players, who are examining both games’ distinct features and shared aspects while anticipating The Elder Scrolls 6.

Avowed is being criticized for having this annoying feature

In their newest game, Avowed by Obsidian, numerous safety precautions have been implemented to guide players away from poor choices within the game. However, this feature is drawing criticism from role-playing game (RPG) enthusiasts, such as those who enjoy Skyrim, due to the fact that other RPGs offer more room for mistakes and subsequent learning experiences.

In Skyrim, players aren’t guided step-by-step; instead, they’re dropped right into the heart of a tumultuous world to navigate on their own. While there are shared elements between Skyrim and Avowed, each game also presents unique distinctions.

The main distinction lies in the unique methods used for player autonomy. The transformation from ignorance to proficiency captivates enthusiasts, allowing them to engage with the game in innovative and customized ways. Yet, Avowed manages to preserve Obsidian’s renowned tradition of encouraging modding.

The developers of Avowed are like overprotective parents who’ve installed safety locks. They’re constantly preventing potentially harmful situations, ensuring the gameplay experience is as safe and nurturing as possible.

I’ve clocked more than 10 hours in Avowed, and there hasn’t been anything that feels overly politically correct or “woke” so far. Some elements come close, but nothing too extreme has shown up yet.

I believe the game has been linked to being “woke” due to its eccentric art director. However, I’m enjoying my time with the game as it is.

In contrast, when a title such as “Avowed,” which is renowned for its player autonomy, puts up restrictions on wrong choices and compels players to adhere strictly to the prescribed path, it falls short in delivering the same degree of immersion and personal attachment compared to games like “Skyrim.

Skyrim does some things better than Avowed

Despite being over a decade old, Skyrim continues to hold its own against games launched in 2025. In certain aspects, it outperforms even newer titles such as Avowed, demonstrating that age isn’t always a determinant of quality.

In the realm of water and projectile physics, as well as visual magic effects, Skyrim clearly outperforms Avowed. The magic in Skyrim even seems grander in comparison. While Avowed excels at creating a visually stunning world, there’s still room for improvement.
