Asmongold Roasts Avowed for Low Steam Player Numbers but Game Pass Players Magically Don’t Count
In today’s gaming world, the number of players is often the sole factor used to determine a game’s achievement. Regardless of how exceptional a game may be, such as the latest title from Obsidian Entertainment, “Avowed”, if it doesn’t climb the rankings on platforms like Steam, it will generally be considered good at best.
Expressing it differently: Amidst growing anticipation, even live streamers are now considering game popularity based on player numbers. However, Asmongold might not fall into this category. In a recent broadcast, he voiced his opinions about the relatively poor performance of Avowed on Steam and why the player count on Xbox Game Pass should be overlooked as if by magic.
Asmongold on Avowed: Numbers matter
Avowed isn’t a poor game by any means, but due to the current state of the video game industry, which heavily relies on numerical performance, it may not get the recognition it deserves. However, a strategy often effective for new releases is to launch the game across various platforms and marketplaces.
But how useful would that be if factors such as subscriptions like Xbox Game Pass weren’t considered? This is a point made by popular content creator Asmongold during one of his latest live streams, as evidenced by this Instagram post.
The streamer primarily discussed the game’s performance on Steam’s sales charts, which didn’t exceed 15,000 units during that period. He additionally brought up how other games, such as S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2, were also available on both platforms. However, it managed to perform well on Valve’s marketplace too.
As a fellow gamer, I want to share some insights about the game “Avowed”. If you’ve been checking Steam numbers, remember that it’s not the only platform this game is available on. Plus, beyond Game Pass, the game has been delighting countless players who’ve navigated through its virtual ‘high seas’. This is possible due to the absence of any Digital Rights Management (DRM) or anti-piracy software, making it accessible to more gamers like us.
How Xbox Game Pass Has Changed The Industry For Better
In simple terms, Game Pass has emerged as a significant player within the gaming sector. Microsoft is now releasing their own games straight onto this platform instead of traditional methods like Steam. As a result, a growing number of gamers are finding it more convenient to discover and play new games through the Xbox app, rather than buying them directly from Steam.
So far, the leading game title is “Call of Duty: Black Ops 6,” which was launched last October, making it one of the first-day releases frequently provided to the platform’s subscribers. This is just one of the numerous perks that Xbox Game Pass members can take advantage of.
In essence, overemphasizing Steam sales overlooks the real picture of a game’s success. Given the growth of services like Game Pass and diverse digital distribution methods, a title’s achievement can no longer be defined by sales on a single platform alone. If Avowed is thriving on Game Pass and keeping players hooked through alternative means, then it’s meeting its objectives effectively.
