In the character creation process of Avowed, the initial weapons you receive depend on the Background you select. So, if you’re setting up your Envoy character, it’s natural to be curious about which weapon you’ll first wield. The game offers a variety of weapons in Avowed, and while the one you start with is just temporary, knowing what you’re initially choosing can be beneficial during the early stages. To help you make an informed decision at the outset, here are all the starting weapons for each Background option available in Avowed.

What Avowed starting weapons are available

If you’re contemplating the Backstory for your character in Avowed, based on their initial weapon choice, here’s a breakdown of what you can expect for each option:

1. Longsword: A noble upbringing with a lineage steeped in military tradition, or perhaps you are a skilled mercenary who specializes in close combat.
2. Crossbow: You might be a seasoned marksman from the ranger corps, adept at taking down enemies from afar. Or maybe you’re a stealthy assassin, relying on precision and surprise.
3. Warhammer: Perhaps you’re a stalwart soldier who excels in crowd control, or a dwarf with a rich history of battlefield victories using this versatile weapon.
4. Dagger: You could be a nimble thief or an agile scout, adept at striking from the shadows and disarming foes quickly. Or maybe you’re a rogue with a mysterious past, skilled in deceit and subterfuge.

As you awaken on the beach and encounter Garryck, your first ally in Avowed, you’ll notice your selected starting weapon resting near a barrel and crates – go ahead and pick it up along with the Health Potion lying nearby. Store them both in your inventory.

At this early stage, it’s important to note that your initial weapon in Avowed won’t drastically affect your gameplay experience since you’ll only use it during the initial part of the game and against relatively easy-to-defeat enemies. After these introductory sections, characters from every Background will have access to an identical arsenal of weapons as they begin acquiring loot. Instead, how you allocate points in Avowed’s skill trees will determine which weapons will suit you best.
