Channel Seven’s upcoming reality series, My Reno Rules, has finally gotten a release date.
The new show, from the makers of MasterChef, aims to compete with Channel Nine’s The Block. It will follow four teams of renovators as they compete to fix up dilapidated houses next door to each other in Melbourne.
My Reno Rules will premiere at 7.30pm on Tuesday 21 April on Seven and 7plus.
Adrian Portelli, who previously tried to buy a property on The Block, will now appear as a cast member on the show, which has been experiencing difficulties.
The judging panel features design expert Neale Whitaker, property specialist Simon Cohen of Cohen Handler, and interior stylist Julia Green.
The new show, My Reno Rules, will be hosted by Dr. Chris Brown, who will also serve as the sole host and main anchor.
The teams will compete by renovating neighboring homes bought by Portelli, and he’ll give the finished homes away to deserving families.
Portelli will monitor the progress of the rebuilds throughout the series.
Thirty-six-year-old Portelli, a successful entrepreneur nicknamed ‘Mr Lambo’, has consistently used social media to build his personal brand and present himself as a prominent figure associated with the show.
Sources familiar with the struggling production told the Daily Mail last year that Portelli largely stays out of the spotlight behind the scenes.
Seven announced last month that Portelli will be in charge of the show’s live prize giveaway.
I’ve been following Nathan Portelli’s work for a while now, and I recently discovered he was the one who secured the two older houses in Bulleen, Melbourne for his show, My Reno Rules. It’s great to see him finding properties so close to the city – just 15km from the CBD! It really gives the show a fantastic location.
Portelli bought two houses, worth a combined $2.7 million, using his company, Xclusive Tech Pty Ltd, and then provided them to the show as a contribution.
According to a source who spoke with Daily Mail, Portelli is currently only a financial sponsor of the project. Filming at the Bulleen location hadn’t begun yet because the initial construction company pulled out.
The show was originally planned to start filming on September 26th, but it didn’t begin production until several weeks later.
A source close to the show clarified that reports claiming the homes weren’t prepared for filming are inaccurate.
When contacted for a statement, a representative for both Portelli and Seven confirmed that filming for My Reno Rules is scheduled to begin construction later in 2025.
We’re still talking with several builders as we prepare for construction, according to a recent statement.
Portelli officially turned his back on Channel Nine’s The Block in July last year.
After spending millions buying properties on the show over the past three seasons, the investor announced on social media that he’s leaving the series permanently.
