Aubrey Plaza was seen with a visible baby bump shortly after announcing she’s expecting her first child.
The White Lotus actress, 41, is pregnant and expecting a baby with her boyfriend, actor Christopher Abbott, 40, according to a source who spoke to the Daily Mail.
The actress from Parks and Recreation hid her baby bump with a sweatshirt while walking her dog in New York City on Wednesday.
For her quick walk, she was wearing a dark blue coat, a burgundy shirt, grey sweatpants, and New Balance sneakers.
Aside from her furry friend, she appeared to be alone.
The outing comes just a day after news of Plaza’s pregnancy was revealed.
The baby, whose gender has not been revealed, is due in the fall.
‘It was a beautiful surprise after an emotional year,’ a source told People.
The couple, who met and fell in love while performing on Broadway, are reportedly feeling incredibly grateful.
News broke that actress Plaza is pregnant and expecting a baby with her partner, Abbott. Her representative confirmed the news.
Abbott is most famous for his role as Marnie’s sometimes-boyfriend on the popular HBO show Girls, created by Lena Dunham.
The two actors first collaborated in 2019 on the independent film Black Bear. In this psychological drama, they each played two characters: both an actor and a director attempting to film a movie in a remote and unsettling lakeside house.
The inexpensive thriller debuted at the Sundance Film Festival in January 2020 and received very positive reviews, with many critics praising it as one of Aubrey Plaza’s strongest performances yet.
In 2023, she reunited with Abbott, this time performing together in a stage revival of John Patrick Shanley’s play, Danny and the Deep Blue Sea. The production ran through January 2024.
Plaza and her partner were most recently spotted together on February 14th at the Khaite Fall/Winter 2026 show during New York Fashion Week.
They were photographed sitting together in the front row, along with celebrities like Elizabeth Debicki and Gemma Chan.
I seriously couldn’t believe it when I found out she was pregnant! It was such a surprise because she and her boyfriend, Abbott, had been so private – I mean, they kept their whole relationship a secret from everyone! I was obsessed with finding out any little detail, and they just hadn’t given anything away. It was amazing how well they hid it!
Last June, someone reported to the gossip site DeuxMoi that they saw Ana de Armas and Paul Mescal looking cozy together at Chatham Berry Farm in upstate New York. This was about five months after Ana de Armas’s husband had passed away.
According to witnesses, she was seen talking to a woman who turned out to be Abbott’s sister, Christina, shortly before she shared a post about the farm event on Instagram.
For the past fifteen years, Abbott has consistently delivered impressive performances in both television and film.
I remember first noticing Adam Driver in a smaller role before Girls really blew up – he was fantastic in Martha Marcy May Marlene, alongside Elizabeth Olsen. It was a really gripping, psychological thriller and he definitely stood out, even then. It was clear he had serious talent!
He’s also been in movies like A Most Violent Year (2014), James White, Whiskey Tango Foxtrot (2016) with Tina Fey, and the thriller It Comes At Night (2017).
In 2018, he starred alongside Ryan Gosling as astronaut Dave Scott in the film First Man, a biography of Neil Armstrong directed by Damien Chazelle, known for La La Land.
While Abbott is known for working on smaller, independent films, he’s also been involved in bigger projects. These include the 2023 comedy Poor Things, with Emma Stone, and upcoming films like Kraven The Hunter and a new version of Wolf Man (both scheduled for release in 2025).
He recently acted with Amanda Seyfried in the historical drama The Testament of Ann Lee and is set to appear with Florence Pugh in a new Netflix series based on John Steinbeck’s East of Eden.
Plaza is expecting a baby after a difficult 2025, during which her soon-to-be ex-husband, Jeff Baena, tragically passed away by suicide on January 3rd.
It was subsequently revealed that the couple had separated four months before his untimely death.
A recent autopsy report from the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner, obtained by the Daily Mail, shows the filmmaker and actress had split up in September 2024. She was living in New York when his body was found.
The report revealed that the director of Life After Beth was going through a tough time in his marriage and had been seeing a therapist in the months before his death.
Okay, so I’ve been digging through all these reports, and it’s insane! Apparently, this investigator wrote down that Plaza – they kept her name hidden in the official version, which is SO suspicious – actually talked to Baena the night before he died. Can you believe it? It’s like, everything hinges on that one conversation, and they tried to bury her involvement! I’ve pieced it together, and it’s clear she’s a key player, but they’re trying to keep it quiet. It’s maddening!
The report sadly showed the actress was worried about her soon-to-be ex-husband.
According to documents, in October 2024, Baena said things to [Plaza] that worried her, leading Plaza to ask a friend to check on her husband. Baena has been in therapy ever since.
The report showed that Baena had no drugs or alcohol in his system when he died.
I learned that Plaza knew her husband was still alive as of January 3rd. He’d actually texted her that morning, so she had direct confirmation he was okay.
The report states that a dog walker found Baena’s body after noticing loud music coming from his home – something the walker described as out of the ordinary.
I mean, can you even imagine? She tried calling him, desperate to talk to the genius behind it all, but no answer. So, naturally, she went to his house… and that’s when she found him. It’s just… heartbreaking. Absolutely heartbreaking.
The Plaza Hotel released a statement to the Daily Mail expressing their devastation over the tragedy. They thanked everyone for their support and asked for privacy during this difficult time.
Aubrey Plaza and Jeff Baena first connected in 2011 at a game night Baena hosted for his friends and colleagues. They quickly started dating after that.
Jared Baena first gained recognition for co-writing the 2004 comedy I Heart Huckabees with David O. Russell. He later directed the 2014 zombie comedy Life After Beth, featuring Aubrey Plaza.
Aubrey Plaza and Jeff Baena worked together again on the films Joshy (2016) and The Little Hours (2017), with Plaza also serving as a producer on the latter. She later appeared in a supporting role in Baena’s dark comedy thriller Spin Me Round, which starred Alison Brie and was co-written by Brie and Baena.
Plaza revealed to Page Six in 2018 that she and Baena connected over a shared love of movies, which eventually blossomed into both a creative and romantic relationship.
The couple got married privately in 2020. Aubrey Plaza shared the news in 2021 while promoting her movie, Spin Me Round, casually calling Jeff Baena her ‘darling husband’ on Instagram.
After his passing, Plaza returned to public life by introducing musical performers Miley Cyrus and Brittany Howard at the 50th anniversary celebration of Saturday Night Live in February 2025.
She honored her late husband with a touching gesture: wearing a tie-dye shirt. They had bonded over tie-dye, wearing matching pajamas at their simple wedding after he took up the craft as a hobby when the pandemic began.
Plaza started her career doing sketch comedy in the mid-2000s. She then moved on to appear in short films and funny videos online towards the end of the decade.
Aubrey Plaza quickly rose to fame after the TV show Parks and Recreation premiered on NBC in 2009. She became known for her role as April Ludgate, a cynical and somewhat gloomy assistant to Amy Poehler’s cheerful character.
The actress quickly became a popular film star, appearing in movies like Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World (where she acted alongside her then-boyfriend Michael Cera), Safety Not Guaranteed (2012), Ingrid Goes West (2017), The Little Hours (directed by Baena), Happiest Season (2020), Emily The Criminal (2022), and My Old Friend (2024).
She played a villain on the X-Men series Legion (2017–2019) and was featured in the popular second season of HBO’s The White Lotus in 2022.
Last August, Plaza publicly shared her feelings of grief for the first time since the loss of her friend, Baena. She did so during a conversation with her former colleague, Amy Poehler, on Poehler’s podcast, ‘Good Hang’.
When Amy Poehler acknowledged her husband’s passing and asked how she was coping, Aubrey Plaza responded that she felt happy to be with everyone in that moment. She said she was getting by and grateful for the ability to navigate life, admitting it was a daily challenge but that she felt okay.
She continued, saying that the comparison was actually quite silly, and she’d initially made it as a joke. However, she was being serious now. She then asked if the other person had seen the film, The Gorge.
She compared it to a sci-fi movie, mentioning one Miles Teller starred in with Anya Taylor-Joy and Sigourney Weaver for Apple TV+ in 2025.
She explained that the movie featured a dangerous landscape – cliffs on either side and a deep chasm filled with monstrous creatures trying to attack the characters. Watching it, she realized this felt similar to her experience with grief, or how grief might feel for anyone. She described a constant, overwhelming sense of sadness, always present and visible, like a vast, terrible ocean.
I have a complicated relationship with it. Sometimes I’m completely immersed, other times I just observe, and I’ve even tried to distance myself. But it always remains present in my life.
