Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 Bonus Ending Sees Henry Hang For His Crimes

Summary

  • Embracing a life of crime in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 can lead to a grim execution cutscene at the gallows for Henry.
  • If you choose the option of going to the gallows… you’re going to the gallows.
  • At least the people are entertained by a nice afternoon hanging.

The long-awaited sequel to Kingdom Come: Deliverance immerses you in the life of a medieval peasant. You’ll have the chance to engage in various activities like blacksmithing, potion making, craftsmanship, and even stealing bread to survive. But remember, if your medieval misdeeds persist, expect the medieval justice system to eventually catch up with you.

Many games feature bonus conclusions that are more like detours than actual endings. The Far Cry series is particularly famous for this practice, allowing players to essentially conclude the game before it starts, thanks to Pagan Min. Similarly, Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 includes a similar kind of conclusion, and it’s quite bleak.

To The Gallows!

If Henry chooses a path of criminality, there’s a possibility that he will end up being hanged, as a consequence of his actions. As NikTek pointed out on Twitter (thanks to GamesRadar+), if you can’t bribe your way out of trouble, you’ll face the hangman for your offenses. This isn’t just regular imprisonment, but rather a direct trip to the gallows.

Instead of assuming the game would show a “game over” message at this juncture, Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 offers an extended sequence instead. In this scene, Henry is depicted as he mournfully waits in a cell, then is led through an enraged crowd to the gallows. As a solemn spectacle, he gazes towards the heavens before the executioner removes the support beneath him. The game over screen appears only afterwards, allowing you to choose whether to restart or load a prior save.

Warhorse Studios chose to add an extra touch in the game, instead of immediately taking you to the game over screen. This added scene may be sad, but it’s a thoughtful inclusion. Although you can choose to either pay or battle your way free from being taken away, the fact that developers provided this choice is quite remarkable.

The dialogue choice comes with a clear sign that selecting it leads to disaster, and if you opt for the outcome, you receive a beautifully crafted yet melancholic conclusion.
