Former Jubilee Actor Lana Condor Still Wants to Reprise X-Men Role for the MCU

Marvel Studios is getting ready to release its first movie focusing on the X-Men, after the characters were with 20th Century Fox for many years. Though some older X-Men characters have appeared in Marvel Cinematic Universe films, and Kamala Khan was established as the first new mutant, fans are excited to finally see a dedicated X-Men movie as part of the larger universe. The project is currently being developed, with Jake Schreier, known for Thunderbolts, directing, and the script being revised by Lee Sung Jin (Beef) and Joanna Colo (The Bear).

Currently, there’s no news about which actors will play Marvel’s famous mutants, particularly those joining the main X-Men team. While Marvel seems likely to continue using Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool, they’ll need new actors to take on roles like Professor X, Magneto, Wolverine, Cyclops, and Jean Grey. As the casting process begins, one actor who has played a mutant before is hoping for another chance to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

I recently read an interview with Lana Condor, who played Jubilee in X-Men: Apocalypse, and she’s making it very clear she wants to return to the role in the MCU’s upcoming X-Men film. She told Parade she’s been actively campaigning to bring Jubilee back ever since she first stepped into the part – it was her very first role, and she feels like there’s so much more to explore with the character. She’s really hoping Marvel will give her the chance to revisit Jubilee and finally bring her full vision for the mutant to life.

Ever since ‘X-Men: Apocalypse’ came out, I’ve really hoped to reprise my role. Jubilee was my very first character, and as a newcomer to filmmaking, I was just thrilled to be on set and get any screen time at all. I was so naive back then! I didn’t understand how things worked. I felt incredibly lucky to be part of the movie, and I always envisioned so much more for Jubilee, drawing from the comics. There’s a lot of untapped potential with her character, and I’d absolutely love the chance to explore that further.

Lana Condor only had one chance to portray Jubilee in a live-action movie, appearing in X-Men: Apocalypse. Since then, Jubilee has mostly stayed out of the spotlight, with a recent appearance in the Disney+ animated series X-Men ’97, where Holly Chou voiced the character (taking over from Alyson Court in the original animated series). At just 28 years old, Condor would be a good fit for the age Marvel is seeking for its new mutant actors, potentially allowing her to play the role for a longer period.

Although fans are speculating about which famous actors might play mutants in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, we likely won’t hear any official casting news for a while. Still, actors like Kiernan Shipka are getting attention as Marvel Studios moves closer to finally making an X-Men movie.
