This latest early access version shows the game has been redesigned to feature longer levels, more impactful combat, and a greater need to learn how each plant works. Some features, like customizable avatars, have been cut, and the gameplay returns to the classic lawn defense style of the original games.
The development of Plants vs Zombies 3 has faced several setbacks. It initially released in a limited test phase in 2020, but was quickly removed for significant revisions. The game reappeared briefly in 2021, then wasn’t seen again for three years.
The game initially launched in early access in a few areas in January 2024, but was taken off digital stores in October of the same year because the developers wanted to make major changes. Throughout 2025, rumors circulated about the game’s future, including updates to its visual style, test releases in China, and plans for a new version called Plants vs Zombies Reloaded.
The game is currently available for Android and iOS users in Ireland and the Philippines. It will be released in more regions over the next few months, with a worldwide launch planned for later this year.
