Rachel Dolezal, known for falsely presenting herself as Black, recently had skin cancer removed from her lower back. Doctors believe excessive tanning likely contributed to the development of the melanoma.
Nkechi Amare Diallo, an activist who identifies as a trans-black woman, became well-known in 2015 when it was revealed she had presented herself as Black despite being white.
Last week, the 48-year-old shared on Instagram that she recently had surgery to remove a stage 1 melanoma. She also promised to stop sunbathing, saying she would no longer ‘lay out in the sun’.
She explained that the surgery was a difficult but valuable experience, highlighting the long-term effects of sun exposure – something she’d dealt with since childhood, as her family hadn’t used sunscreen.
To keep her famously golden tan, Dolezal shared that she now uses liquid tanning drops instead of spending time in the sun.
She explained that carrots contain carotene, and there’s a long-held belief that drinking carrot and beet juice can boost melanin production.
Carotene is a photosynthetic pigment that’s found in carrots and sweet potatoes.
Eating foods rich in carotene can sometimes make your skin look slightly orange. Because of this, some companies now sell carotene supplements as a way to get a tan.
After being exposed as a race faker in 2015, the former NAACP leader was unable to find work.
She eventually got a job teaching after-school programs at Sunrise Drive Elementary in Tucson, Arizona, but lost it when her employer discovered she was also creating content on OnlyFans.
In September 2021, Dolezal started an OnlyFans page where she planned to share content including pictures of her feet, hair styling guides, and workout videos.
However, it later evolved to feature more explicit content, including sex tapes.
She is now training with the Sexology Institute to become a certified sex coach.
‘It’s a really great, rigorous, academic program,’ she said in a recent social media post.
For over a decade, Dolezal pretended to be Black and eventually became the leader of a local NAACP chapter.
She also became a teacher of Africana studies at Eastern Washington University.
In 2015, a news reporter in Washington exposed Rachel Dolezal’s true racial background, revealing that her parents, Ruthanne and Lawrence Dolezal, are both white.
She lost her job at the NAACP and was later let go from her position at Eastern Washington University.
As a lifestyle expert, I’ve followed this story closely. This individual, who gained attention as a civil rights activist, later claimed to be ‘transracial’ or ‘trans-black.’ She maintains she didn’t do anything wrong by allowing people to believe she was Black, even when it wasn’t accurate, and has defended her decision not to correct those assumptions.
Dolezal tried to rebuild her image with a Netflix documentary in 2018, The Rachel Divide.
She later expanded on her experiences by writing a memoir, titled In Full Color: Finding My Place in a Black and White World.
She now hosts a podcast called TradPro, geared towards people with progressive views who are interested in embracing more traditional ways of life.
I’ve been following TradPro, and what I love about it is how it challenges the assumption that if you’re drawn to traditional ways of life, you have to be religious or politically conservative. It’s a really refreshing take, and feels like a quiet way to reclaim tradition for everyone.
‘Empowering individuals to choose homemaking, caregiving and empathetic advocacy without stigma.’
This podcast welcomes anyone—including cis women, trans women, and feminine-presenting men—who finds joy and meaning in traditional homemaking or nurturing roles.
