is returning to the director’s chair.
Taylor Sheridan is most famous for creating the popular Yellowstone world of shows, including Tulsa King, Lioness, and Landman. He’s also a successful film writer and director, with credits like the screenplays for Sicario (2015) and Hell or High Water (2016), and having both written and directed Wind River (2017).
According to a recent announcement on the Texas Lieutenant Governor’s website, director Sheridan will be making a new movie about the Battle of the Alamo. He’s both writing and directing the film, which is being created for the Alamo Visitor Center and Museum in San Antonio. It will be shown in the museum’s 4D theater.
The movie and the place where it will be shown are being called a cutting-edge, fully immersive experience meant to bring the story of the Battle of the Alamo to life. Sheridan explained the new project with this statement:
The Alamo is fundamental to the story of Texas. I’m honored to share the story of the courageous individuals who gave their lives defending it.
Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick also shared his thoughts on the new film, noting that director Taylor Sheridan’s strong connection to Texas uniquely qualifies him to tell this story.
As soon as I saw the plans for the theater, I knew Taylor Sheridan was the only person to bring this Alamo Museum film to life. For the past ten years, Taylor has uniquely captured the essence of the American West – its people, landscapes, and rich history – through his films. Plus, as a proud Texan, he has a deep understanding and love for our state and its heritage.
I contacted Taylor to see if he’d be interested in filming and directing this important project about the Alamo. Even with a very busy schedule, he immediately and enthusiastically agreed.
Taylor Sheridan, the creator of Yellowstone, is returning to direct feature films with his new movie about the Battle of the Alamo. While the film won’t be shown in most theaters, it will be available exclusively at the Alamo Museum. This marks Sheridan’s first time directing a feature since 2021’s Those Who Wish Me Dead.
Though Sheridan isn’t directing many movies currently, he remains very active directing television. He’s directed episodes of several popular shows, including Landman, Lioness, 1883, and Mayor of Kingstown.
