If you liked Amanda Seyfried in the thriller The Housemaid, you might also enjoy Long Bright River. This American crime drama is now available on Channel 4, and stars Seyfried as Mickey, a police officer in Philadelphia. You can watch the whole series as a box set.
I was so excited when this drama finally came out in 2025! It premiered on Peacock here in the US, and it’s based on the amazing novel by Liz Moore. It’s an eight-episode series that Liz Moore actually co-created with Nikki Toscano – you might know Nikki from Hunters on Prime Video. The story follows Mickey as she tries to solve a string of murders in a really troubled neighborhood, and it quickly gets personal because she starts to think these cases might be connected to her sister going missing. It’s a really gripping story!
According to a review in The Post NZ, Long Bright River is the compelling crime drama viewers have been waiting for, similar to Mare of Easttown. The review also praised Seyfried’s performance as captivating and described the series as a dark and gripping story.

According to TV Insider, the new Peacock series Long Bright River, based on Liz Moore’s novel, features a complex and flawed main character, Mickey Fitzpatrick, who is reminiscent of the compelling lead in HBO’s Mare of Easttown.
Anyone who enjoyed HBO’s Mare of Easttown (and it’s definitely worth checking out if you haven’t seen it) will remember Kate Winslet’s incredible performance as the lead detective. She truly made that high-quality drama stand out.

According to a review in the Irish Independent (as reported by Rotten Tomatoes), Long Bright River has a distinct and bleak atmosphere, and Jessica Seyfried delivers a surprisingly compelling and believable performance.
According to Decider, while the first episode of Long Bright River offers intriguing hints about Mickey’s history and features a strong performance from Seyfried, the show relies heavily on her presence. Without Seyfried, they suggest it wouldn’t stand out from other crime shows.

Joining the cast of Long Bright River are Ashleigh Cummings, known for Citadel, Nicholas Pinnock from This Town, and John Doman, famous for his role in The Wire.
The thriller Long Bright River was previously available on Channel 4, and it’s back now – making it a great time to start watching all the episodes.
The latest issue of Living Legends, a beautiful 100-page, full-color tribute to Sir David Attenborough, is now available! You can purchase it at newsstands or online.
