eFootball 2026 Master League leaks: A detailed look at the new mode, and why it feels disappointing

Story Highlights

  • eFootball 2026 Master League is reportedly coming as an online event mode, not an offline experience.
  • The mode features seasonal resets, so all progress, players, and managers are wiped after each event.

For years, fans have been longing for the return of the beloved Master League from the classic Pro Evolution Soccer games. While we knew the version in eFootball 2026 would be different, recent leaks – following an initial update on Xbox – suggest it might not be the comeback everyone hoped for.

Many fans, myself included, are a bit let down by what appears to be the new Master League in eFootball 2026. It’s not a traditional offline career mode, and early information suggests a significantly different experience. Here’s a look at what the leaks are showing about the upcoming version.

eFootball 2026 Master League leaks: Features and additions explained

Based on recent leaks, Master League is shaping up to be an online mode focused on specific events, rather than a traditional, season-long career where you manage a club over time.

The game includes some new cutscenes, but they aren’t as extensive or detailed as those in past games. It seems like even more cutscenes that were made during the game’s development weren’t actually included in the final version.

Structure

As a huge fan of Master League, I’m really excited about how they’re changing things up! It sounds like each new season will be pretty quick, and everything will basically start fresh. You build your team, battle it out, and get cool rewards, but when the season ends, it’s like hitting the reset button – a clean slate for the next event. It’s a cool way to keep things interesting and give everyone a fresh start!

The PC version of eFootball was unexpectedly updated to version 5.4.0 today. I can now confirm that Master League will be an online event mode, featuring a small number of new cutscenes, and won’t be a traditional offline mode.

Match Types

In this version of Master League, matches come in two forms: those you control directly, and Synergy matches which are simulated. Synergy matches focus on team chemistry and how well your players work together. If your team isn’t built well or your lineup is unbalanced, you might lose these matches even without playing!

However, playing matches the traditional way lets you directly control the game and earn better rewards. Synergy is more of a practice tool or a faster way to level up. We’ll understand exactly how it works – and whether it allows us to bypass playing matches entirely – once it’s released.

Progression and Event systems

The game includes a system called Life or Energy. It works similarly to older PES Mobile games, limiting how many matches you can play at once. Each match uses up one Life, but these refill automatically over time. You can also spend in-game money to get more Lives instantly. Any unused Lives will disappear when an event ends.

⚽️ Heads up #eFootball fans! Details about the upcoming update leaked overnight. 🧑‍💻 A new mode called “Master League Challenge” is coming! Here’s a full breakdown of everything we know so far (spoiler alert!) ⬇️

This game features a follower system where you earn fans by playing and winning matches. The more followers you gain, the more rewards you unlock and the higher you’ll rank globally. Exceptional gameplay can even earn you extra followers!

This new mode features random events before each match, called Episodes, that can either help or hinder your team. These events might improve your players’ skills and teamwork, or they could create difficulties like player tiredness, sickness, or lower team spirit.

There will inevitably be injuries and player transfers, meaning managing the team effectively remains crucial. You can get a full picture of everything once the version 5.4.0 update is released, as I mentioned before.

Master League in eFootball 2026 is treated as an “online event”

Simply put, we’re hosting an online event. We’d hoped to bring back a proper offline career mode – one where you could build a club over several seasons, nurture players, handle finances, and craft your own unique football journey without the pressure of always being online.

It looks like we’re moving forward with options similar to the Dream Team or focusing on online features. These additions are really promising and offer a new experience with a lot of potential. However, we’re a bit let down by the direction they’ve taken with the “Master League” concept.

A different name for this mode would have been more appropriate. The current name might give fans false hope about the return of the Master League, when it’s really just a small step towards bringing back a beloved feature from past PES games. It’s definitely disappointing to see this mode presented as a simple “Event” when fans have always enjoyed it as a full-fledged game mode.
