Todd Meadows, a crew member on the popular TV show “Deadliest Catch,” tragically died after falling into the Bering Sea.
According to the death certificate obtained by TMZ, crew member Ricardo Meadows died from drowning, likely due to hypothermia after being submerged in cold water. Alaska’s Department of Health has officially ruled his death an accident.
Michael Meadows, a new crew member who started working on the show in May 2025, hadn’t appeared on “Deadliest Catch” yet when he died. The show was finishing up filming for its 22nd season, and cameras were recording at the time of the incident.
Angela Meadows, the mother of the man who died, has requested that the show not broadcast footage of his death. “No parent wants to see their child’s final moments publicly,” she explained to Alaska News Source.

Rick Shelford, captain of the Aleutian Lady, shared news on social media that Meadows passed away on February 25th. He described it as the “most tragic day” in the ship’s history while sailing the Bering Sea.
In a heartfelt tribute, Shelford shared the news of their brother’s passing. Todd had recently joined their team but quickly became like family. Everyone admired his dedication to work and his passion for fishing. They will always remember his infectious smile and the joyful sound of his laughter on the boat.
It’s just heartbreaking. He was such a genuinely good guy – worked incredibly hard, loved his family fiercely, and always lit up a room. Honestly, Todd felt like family to all of us on the boat, part of a really tight crew and a brotherhood we’ll never forget. Losing him so young is devastating, but we’ll carry his memory with us, and his kids will keep his spirit alive. He’ll always be with us, in a way.
A GoFundMe page described Jacob Meadows, a deckhand from Montesano, Washington, as a father of three young sons. He tragically died while crabbing in Alaska, doing the job he loved.
The fundraiser has since raised more than $59,000.
