Taylor Frankie Paul is breaking from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
The reality TV star from “Secret Lives of Mormon Wives” publicly announced on Easter Sunday that she is leaving the Mormon faith, which has been central to her public image.
She shared on Instagram that while she grew up Mormon and will always cherish her upbringing, she’s now ready to move away from the religion. She plans to continue attending services with her family occasionally, but is otherwise distancing herself from it.
Paul first gained popularity on TikTok as a mom influencer, sharing her life as a Mormon woman. This online success then led to her role on the reality TV show, “The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives.”
The show surprised many viewers by portraying Mormon mothers in Utah in an unconventional way. Paul, one of the featured moms, caused a stir online when she revealed that she and her friends engaged in casual partner swapping – a practice known as “soft swinging” – though they didn’t have full sexual intercourse. The series also documented her divorce and complicated relationship with Dakota Mortensen, both of which go against the teachings of the Mormon church.
She shared her deep faith, stating her belief in Christ, God, the Bible, and the divine. She emphasized that God’s love is unconditional, reaching people whether they’re praying in church or in private, even in difficult circumstances at home.

I’ve been following the story of ‘The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives’ on Hulu, and it’s been shocking to see everything unfold. I’ve put together a breakdown of how the show gained popularity, but also, and more importantly, a timeline of the investigations into the alleged domestic violence involving Taylor Frankie Paul. It’s a really difficult story, and I wanted to understand exactly how it all happened, step by step.
Paul was originally chosen to star in season 22 of “The Bachelorette,” but a video surfaced online showing a 2023 argument involving Paul and someone named Mortensen. Because of this, ABC canceled the season’s premiere, and another show, “Secret Lives,” also temporarily stopped filming. Interestingly, this season was going to break with tradition by featuring a lead who hadn’t previously appeared on “The Bachelor.”
Police are now looking into claims of two more instances of domestic violence involving Paul and Mortensen. Because of this investigation, Paul has temporarily lost custody of her child with Mortensen. A court hearing is scheduled for Tuesday to decide if a permanent protective order will be issued.
Paul described the past 40 days as incredibly difficult in a recent Instagram post. He shared a collection of photos – including Bible verses, pictures of himself crying, pain relief patches, and handwritten notes – to illustrate how challenging the period had been.
During my panic attacks, I always prayed for the strength to get through them, as my body felt overwhelmed by the intense distress. I’ve prayed since childhood and always found comfort in it, believing that God wants us to reach out for help, particularly when we’re struggling the most.
