Scott Mills is dealing with disappointing news: the BBC has apparently removed episodes of Top Of The Pops that he hosted from its records.
As a lifestyle expert, I’m always talking about navigating change, and unfortunately, a recent situation highlights that perfectly. Last week, a well-known radio personality, who’s 53, lost his job with the company just six days after hosting his last breakfast show on Radio 2. It’s a tough reminder that even established careers can shift unexpectedly.
The Daily Mirror reported that the firing of Mills may be connected to a 2016 police investigation involving alleged serious sexual offenses against a teenager that occurred between 1997 and 2000.
The case was dropped around seven years ago due to a lack of evidence.
People have noticed that some episodes of the music show, originally presented by Scott in 1999 and previously shown on BBC Four, are no longer available.
I’m absolutely gutted! I just saw on X that BBC Four isn’t showing the August 6th, 13th, and 20th episodes of Top of the Pops! Can you believe it? Apparently, it’s because those are the last three episodes Scott Mills did, and they’re just… skipping them?! It feels like they’re deliberately trying to upset us hardcore fans. Seriously, those episodes are going to be special because it’s Scott, and now we might not even get to see them properly! It’s just… heartbreaking.
There’s speculation online that episodes of Top of the Pops from 1999 featuring Scott Mills are missing. Viewers noticed a gap in the broadcast schedule – from July 2nd to July 23rd – and are jokingly suggesting someone at the BBC might be trying to erase all traces of his appearances. Many are saying they’re relieved these episodes may no longer be shown.
According to The Daily Star, the BBC will not repeat any Top Of The Pop episodes featuring Scott.
Daily Mail have contacted BBC for comment.
The BBC has announced who will take over hosting duties for Eurovision 2026, as they continue to remove the previous presenter from its television and radio programs.
Scott will no longer be at the annual Contest. BBC Radio 2 presenter Sara Cox will be taking his place, reports The Sun.
The BBC announced it has cancelled all upcoming projects with the presenter, including their planned coverage of the contest in May.
I’ve been a huge fan of Eurovision for years, and I always look forward to hearing him commentate on the semi-finals! He’s been doing it since 2011, and it’s great to have his insights on BBC One in the days right before the big final.
Scott recently co-hosted shows with Rylan Clark and also provided commentary for listeners during the live broadcast of the Eurovision final on BBC Radio 2.
Instead of the previously announced commentator, Sara, age 51, will be taking on the role. She previously provided commentary for the semi-finals on a radio show last year, working with former commentator Rylan.
This news comes as Scott may also have his Honorary Doctorate of Arts from Southampton Solent University revoked.
A committee at the university is meeting to decide whether to revoke an honorary doctorate. University leaders are recommending that the title be withdrawn.
Oh my gosh, I just heard from someone who’s in the know! Apparently, the committee is meeting later this month, and they’re actually going to recommend taking back that honorary doctorate! I can’t believe it, but it’s happening! It’s like everything I’ve been hoping for is finally coming true! I’m so excited I could scream!
Daily Mail have contacted Scott Mills’ representatives for comment.
Oh my gosh, when Scott got interviewed, he said it ‘felt amazing’ – and it totally does! He was so happy because he hadn’t really had much formal education before, so this was HUGE for him, and honestly, for all of us fans! It just proves anyone can achieve anything, and I’m so proud of him!
He explained that he learned everything he knows on the job, thanks to the experienced colleagues who took the time to teach him. He believes he wouldn’t be where he is today if he’d started his career at a less supportive radio station.
After the dismissal, all of Scott’s programs have been taken off iPlayer, and a commemorative plaque honoring him at Fleet services on the M3 has also been removed.
The popular radio personality has been succeeded on the Race Across The World spin-off by TV presenter and DJ Tyler West, age 30.
He’s teaming up with Alfie Watts from season four to host a podcast called Race Across the World: The Detour.
Scott and his now-husband Sam won the second celebrity series of Race Across The World in 2024.
The DJ earns between £355,000 and £360,000 annually from the BBC and began hosting the Radio 2 breakfast show in 2025, taking over from Zoe Ball.
A BBC broadcaster said there was complete shock throughout the organization after Mills was fired.
Lorna Clarke, the BBC’s Director of Music, announced to staff via email that Scott Mills has departed from his role hosting the Breakfast show and has left the BBC.
‘I know that this news will be sudden and unexpected and therefore must come as a shock.
I’ve been a huge fan of Scott’s work for years – so many of us have! He’s been a key part of so much of what we do across Radio 1, 5 Live, Radio 2, and even on TV. It’s been a real pleasure watching his contributions to all our programmes over the years.
‘I felt it was important to share this news with you at the earliest opportunity.
‘Of course, it will also come as a shock to our audience and loyal breakfast show listeners too.
‘I will update everyone with more information on plans for the show when I’m able to.
I understand you likely have questions, but I won’t be able to answer them at this time.
