Warner Bros. is building excitement for the upcoming release. To get fans ready, HBO recently released a short documentary about how the series was made, several months before it hits theaters this Christmas.
A new 30-minute documentary is building excitement for the upcoming series, but it also revealed some news that disappointed fans. It’s now official: the Harry Potter series will only have eight episodes. While that’s longer than a typical movie, many fans were hoping for more.
Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone Episode Count Confirmed
This is the first mention of how many episodes there will be. A report in July 2025 suggested a certain number, which aligns with the fact that Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone and its sequel are the shortest books in the series. However, the update regarding the episode count is still a letdown.
With the rise of streaming, TV seasons now often feel rushed. Shows are released less often and have fewer episodes, leaving little time for storylines to develop naturally.
Honestly, what I was really hoping for with this TV show was a truly faithful adaptation of the books. And I don’t just mean recreating what we saw in the movies! I was excited about the potential to really expand the Wizarding World, to go even further than the books ever did and build something even more amazing.
The first season aims to both please existing fans and introduce a new audience to Hogwarts and its magic. However, with only eight episodes, the story feels rushed and doesn’t have enough room to breathe.
The upcoming version will include several scenes that weren’t shown in the movies. These include Voldemort’s downfall and the wizards’ celebration afterward, his initial attempt to kill Harry as a baby on Halloween, Harry’s difficult childhood with his family, and a meeting between Dumbledore and Nicolas Flamel about the Philosopher’s Stone.
As a big fan, I think introducing Harry to the wizarding world is such a huge moment, and it really needs time to unfold properly. Honestly, eight episodes just feels a little too fast – I worry it would feel rushed and we’d miss out on some of the magic.
What Happens in Finding Harry: The Craft Behind the Magic?
A new documentary unexpectedly dropped soon after HBO Max released a first look at Season 1. It shows how the actors for the main characters – Harry Potter (Dominic McLaughlin), Hermione Granger (Arabella Staunton), and Ron Weasley (Alastair Stout) – were chosen. The documentary also features interviews with the actors playing Albus Dumbledore and Professor McGonagall.
The production team also conducted interviews with the heads of each department involved in building this new world. While filming takes place at the same Warner Bros. studio in Leavesden as the original Harry Potter films – and is even near the popular Harry Potter Studio Tour – the cast and crew completely rebuilt all the sets. This included everything from the everyday clothes of non-magical characters (‘Muggles’) and Albus Dumbledore’s vibrant robes to the new Hogwarts school uniforms, plus all-new props and scenery.
Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone premieres on HBO Max on Dec. 25.
