Fans upset with how the manga series ended have been protesting in the streets. They’ve organized a playful demonstration called a “Fujimoto Funeral,” jokingly trying to revive the author—who is, thankfully, still alive.
Fans of the anime and manga series Chainsaw Man recently held a mock funeral for its creator, Tatsuki Fujimoto. This protest appears to be in response to the series’ recent developments. The event started with attendees at the Comic World convention in Busan, South Korea, according to posts shared on social media.
Chainsaw Man’s Manga Ending Sparks Fan Funeral for Tatsuki Fujimoto
Pictures from the memorial service show a simple shrine built around a photo of Fujimoto’s online avatar – a walking, talking heart. People left offerings like snacks, candy, and anime collectibles, including stuffed animals and figurines. This gathering happened soon after the release of the final chapter, “Thank You, Chainsaw Man,” on March 26, 2026, which many fans found disappointing.
A video is currently spreading on social media, originally shared on X (formerly Twitter), that shows a cosplayer pretending to perform a ritual sacrifice. In the video, other cosplayers hold toy swords to the person’s throat and ask them what their last words are.
One viewer asked if the unusual display was a protest, and the person who created it responded that they were upset with how the anime Chainsaw Man ended. The display seems to represent the creator’s spirit being reborn, as if it had faded away after the show finished.
The ending of the Chainsaw Man manga caused a lot of discussion online, with the recent reaction nicknamed “the Fujimoto funeral” being particularly widespread. Without giving away any details, the ending surprised many fans. While some felt it fit the author’s overall style, others were disappointed that it felt hurried and didn’t fully wrap up all the plot threads.
Despite the recent chapter being presented as the end of the series, it feels conclusive, making significant changes difficult. Fans are particularly upset with how the story wrapped up for Denji, whose journey appears to be finished, even though one more chapter is still planned.
The posts have quickly spread across social media, and people’s reactions have been mixed. Some viewers were disappointed with how the series ended, while others accepted it, though not without some reservations. A number of fans, however, felt the ending was perfect and a fitting conclusion to the story.
Tatsuki Fujimoto hasn’t said anything about future plans for Chainsaw Man or acknowledged the online memorials. You can currently watch the anime on Hulu and Crunchyroll, and read the manga on Manga Plus.
