Strictly’s Wynne Evans and Katya Jones assure fans their friendship is ‘stronger than ever’ as they return to rehearsals after Anton Du Beke’s ‘awkward’ comment following THAT ‘wandering hand’ incident
As a seasoned journalist with years of experience under my belt, I’ve seen it all – the highs and lows, the triumphs and trials, the scandals and gaffes that come with public figures’ lives. This latest controversy surrounding Form, the opera singer on Strictly Come Dancing, is no exception.
On Monday, Wynne Evans and Katya Jones from Strictly Come Dancing reassured their followers that their friendship remains unbreakable, following their successful advancement into week eight, which allowed them to resume rehearsals together.
During Saturday’s performance, judge Anton Du Beke caused some discomfort among viewers with his remark on the opera singer’s “perception of space” after his infamous “straying hand” moment, which has since become a popular topic online.
As a lifestyle expert, I’d rephrase that situation like this: Over the past few weeks, I’ve found myself at the center of some buzz due to an awkward incident involving me, Wynne (age 52) and Katya (age 35). The moment in question, which has caused quite a stir, occurred when during our interaction, I subtly withdrew my hand from her waist, bypassing the intended high-five, alluding to an inside joke we share. However, it seems that this action was misconstrued by some, leading to the controversy we’re currently navigating.
Apart from practice shots, Katya additionally shared backstage pictures of the recent performance, capturing moments where she playfully interacted with co-stars Jamie Borthwick and Kai Widdrington.
‘A lot of people were giving each other hugs because we succeeded! Thank you so much! We’re incredibly thankful for this opportunity to dance for another week.’
They’re still a tight-knit group, which brings me great joy as well. The challenges are becoming more intense, and fatigue is undeniable, but the bonds of friendship and gratitude are stronger than ever before.
‘Week 8 can you believe it?’.
After the recent Rhumba competition themed around icons, Anton, aged 58, offered his insights and suggestions to partner Katya, particularly focusing on her ‘awareness of space’.
Overwhelmed by the captivating sequence that culminated with an opera performance, I found myself speechless, uttering: “Simply put, this is the most breathtaking conclusion to any act I’ve ever witnessed throughout my lifetime. Incredible!
He went on to say: ‘I want you to be aware of your spacial awareness to your partner you get either a bit too close to her or a bit too far away from her, but apart from that I want you to carry on as you are as your technique is looking marvellous’.
Racing to X fans said: ‘”You get a bit too close to her” Awkward Anton, AWKWARD!’: ‘Anton to Wynne “I want to make you aware of your spacial awareness to your partner”‘: ‘Anton… most unfortunate comment ever about Wynne’s spacial awareness on relation to his partner’.
The couple scored an impressive 30 out of 40 for the routine which saw them land seventh on the leaderboard.
Katya spoke up for Wynne, stating that he’s been misrepresented and doesn’t match his real character, as they both claim the “playful prank” involving his hand was merely a harmless joke.
On the spin-off show It Takes Two, Wynne acknowledged that he revisited the video of the event and conceded: “It’s understandable if others might have misunderstood it.
Hanging onto his arm, Katya expressed that she found it difficult to endure the criticism her fellow actor was receiving, as she felt confident there was no misconduct involved. She showed understanding and compassion in this situation.
She said: ‘The idea that it made me feel uncomfortable or offended in any way is total nonsense, and those that have doubts, you guys have got it wrong. So hopefully this will be the end of it, and you just keep making me smile.’
She commented: “It’s unsettling to see this man being misrepresented in such a way. In reality, it’s quite the opposite of what’s being shown.
Let me clarify something very clearly: The incident involving the hand gesture and the high-five we shared on Saturday night was just a private joke between Wynne and myself. Was it a bit silly? Definitely. Was it inappropriate? Indeed.
Later on, Wynne discovered himself involved in more turmoil when a supposedly offensive joke he allegedly made backstage was revealed to the public.
It’s said that the opera singer jokingly commented that his chin, while getting makeup, looked like a certain part of a woman’s anatomy.
As a devoted admirer, I’ve come across whispers suggesting that I made an off-color jest prior to the grand unveiling of the BBC competition. This joke, it seems, was shared in a confidential chat with a talented makeup artist, away from the public eye.
A source told The Mirror: ‘It was a bit of a vulgar dad joke.’
According to the report, there was another individual present in the room at that moment, and it’s important to note that the makeup artist did not find Wynne’s joke offensive.
It is said that while formal complaints were made, staff members were not amused.
Instead, the source continued with: ‘Wynne didn’t intend any harm, but one needs to exercise caution these days.’
It’s been reported that a friend of Wynne’s described her playful remark as a moment of self-mockery, and this was shared with the makeup artist discreetly, even though others were in attendance.
