Lily James replaces Sylvester Stallone in classic ’90s action reboot
As a seasoned gamer who has spent countless hours navigating the treacherous terrains of action-adventure games like Uncharted and Tomb Raider, I must admit that the news of Lily James taking over Sylvester Stallone’s role in the Cliffhanger reboot has left me quite intrigued.
Surprisingly, Lily James will take over the role originally intended for Sylvester Stallone in the upcoming remake of “Cliffhanger”.
Initially scheduled for a revival in May 2023, the ’90s action classic was set to bring back Sylvester Stallone and be directed by Ric Roman Waugh. However, according to Variety, the entire creative aspect of the project has undergone a significant transformation.
Actress Lily James has been cast as the main character, while director Jaume Collet-Serra, famous for movies such as ‘The Shallows’ and ‘The Commuter’, steps up to helm the upcoming film project.
The filming process has commenced in Austria, with Pierce Brosnan being added to the ensemble of actors, which already includes Nell Tiger Free, Franz Rogowski, Shubham Saraf, Assaad Bouab, Suzy Bemba, and Bruno Gouery.
The remake of Cliffhanger is inspired by a story penned by Ana Lily Amirpour, often characterized as a modernized, father-daughter twist on Die Hard.
On a weekend excursion with a wealthy businessman’s son and his daughter Sydney, experienced climber Ray Cooper (played by Brosnan), finds himself under the threat of kidnappers. During this ordeal, Ray’s own daughter Naomi (James) observes the attack but manages to flee unharmed.
Tormented by the memories of a previous mountaineering mishap, Naomi is compelled to face her anxieties and strive for life in an attempt to rescue her loved ones.
According to Serra, it was essential for us to film our movie on location in the Dolomites with large-format cameras to convey the vastness and magnitude of the story we’re narrating. We aim to offer viewers an exhilarating and tangible, top-notch cinematic adventure.
Lily stands out with exceptional effort for this role, undergoing genuine training and even learning to ascend. Her unwavering devotion enabled us to seize stunning footage that wouldn’t have been possible otherwise, leaving the entire team astonished by her dedication.
Cliffhanger does not yet have a release date.
