Three decades after their initial collaboration, Tom Hanks and Robin Wright are back together in the movie titled “Here”. This film premiered worldwide for the first time during the AFI Fest at the iconic TCL Chinese Theatre in Hollywood on a recent Friday.
Filmmaker Robert Zemeckis is among a select team of artists joining forces once again. He’s taking on both the role of director and a collaborator for the scriptwriting, working alongside Eric Roth – the screenwriter renowned for crafting the story of Forrest Gump.

The critically-acclaimed movie chronicles the life of Forrest Gump, a man from Alabama with intellectual and physical challenges, as he encounters some of the most significant American events during the 20th century.
In addition to Hanks and Wright, the principal actors also included Sally Field, Gary Sinise, Mykelti Williamson, and Haley Joel Osment.
The Zemeckis-directed film penned by Roth turned out to be a massive success among both audiences and critics, earning a staggering $678.2 million at the global box office while only requiring an initial investment of $55 million.
13 times it was nominated for an Academy Award, ultimately winning six of them. The victories included the categories of Best Picture, Best Director (for Zemeckis), and Best Actor (for Hanks).
Back in December 2011, the classic movie “Forrest Gump” was chosen to be conserved in the prestigious National Film Registry of the Library of Congress.
The Registry acknowledged that the movie was praised for its technological achievements, particularly the smooth integration of Gump into old historical footage digitally. It also received recognition due to its impact on society, which has transformed Forrest Gump into a cultural icon symbolizing American innocence, much like a folk hero. Lastly, it was applauded for its balanced approach in addressing the complex and contentious issues of the era’s troubled past in a way that was both playful and thought-provoking.
