Beyonce's sister Solange Knowles, 38, reveals debilitating diagnosis

As a die-hard fan who has followed Solange Knowles‘ journey since her early days, I can’t help but feel a deep sense of admiration and empathy towards this incredible woman. Her courage to openly discuss her battle with multiple autoimmune disorders is nothing short of inspiring.

Solange Knowles disclosed that she battles several autoimmune conditions, such as Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS), which impact her wellbeing.

The artist behind “The Cranes In The Sky,” aged 38, expressed thoughts on her friend and fellow musician Shaun Ross’s, 33, Instagram post where he openly discussed living with Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS) due to long-term effects of COVID-19.

I am sending you an abundance of love and fortitude, Shaun, and also to everyone in the comments who is grappling with the draining, puzzling, and isolating symptoms of POTS,” Solange (Beyoncé’s sister) wrote in her comment.

In 2018, I was diagnosed with POTS, Sjogren’s, and MCAS. Just like Solange, whose name means ‘ocean’ in French, I often find myself identifying not only with my health conditions but also with the desire for my identity to extend beyond them.

In her remark, Solange referred to Dysautonomia International, an organization dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for people affected by conditions related to the autonomic nervous system.

She went on to say: ‘The wonderful people at @dysautonomiaintl proved to be a truly invaluable source of information for me. I am deeply thankful for the support I received from the spoonie community, who stood by me during my periods of utter confusion.’

An individual referred to as a “spoonie” is someone living with ongoing health issues and disabilities, who employ the metaphorical concept of spoons to express their energy levels.

‘Sending an abundance of love your way!,’ she concluded.

Ross replied to Solange, mentioning that he’s known her for most of his life.

As a long-time companion who’s watched me grow from a teen, let me express my gratitude to you, Solange. You’ve certainly come to understand the boundless energy that’s always been part of my makeup.

“This experience has completely transformed my perspective on many aspects, making navigation easier. I am deeply grateful for your help. Wishing you all the best 💗.

POTS (Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome) can be particularly challenging because it may lead to an unusually fast heartbeat and feelings of dizziness when transitioning from a lying down to sitting or sitting to standing position, as well as any instances where the heart rate increases.

As reported by the Mayo Clinic, Sjogren’s syndrome leads to excessively dry eyes and mouth because the immune system is attacking the body’s moisture-producing glands.

Through MCAS (Mast Cell Activation Syndrome), the immune system’s white blood cells, known as mast cells, might overproduce and inappropriately release substances like histamine, leading to a variety of persistent symptoms that can occasionally escalate to anaphylactic or near-anaphylactic episodes.

As a diligent follower, I can attest that Multiple Chemical Sensitivity (MCS) appears to impact various vital systems in my body, such as my skin, digestive system, heart, respiratory system, and nervous system, according to the National Institutes of Health.

Solange cancelled a couple of performances back in 2017, citing a ‘medical condition’ at the time.

This coincides with the time she began to get a diagnosis for her conditions.

Ross’ caption on his video discussed his own journey with POTS and how he’s handling it.

He started by saying that he had delayed creating this video for quite a while, but his intention was to present it in case it could offer assistance to others experiencing a similar predicament.

‘This isn’t a sympathy reach or anything like that, just me simply sharing my journey with long COVID and how life is today.

As a die-hard enthusiast, I’ve found myself in a unique position lately, fielding an abundance of feedback about my physical transformation from folks both close and distant. Rather than keep it all bottled up, I feel compelled to share the intriguing tale that lies behind this new chapter in my life – my journey with POTS syndrome, a consequence of my long battle with COVID-19.
