Many predicted that the 2026 film adaptation of Wuthering Heights would be the year’s biggest movie, with its passionate take on Emily Brontë’s story. However, The Drama is quickly becoming the center of attention, and it’s already generating buzz before even being released this week – and that’s probably just the beginning.
Kristoffer Borgli, the director and writer of The Drama (who recently gained attention for a previously published essay), tells the story of Emma (Zendaya) and Charlie (Pattinson) as they approach their wedding day. While preparing for the event is already stressful, something unexpected happens that threatens their relationship and the marriage itself.
We haven’t revealed the central turning point of the story in our marketing materials, and you won’t find it detailed here. While some have called it a ‘twist,’ it’s actually introduced fairly early and is the main reason the story unfolds, not a surprise at the end. We’re intentionally keeping the specifics a secret, as it’s meant to be discovered by the audience. However, it’s debatable whether we should have revealed anything about it at all, considering what it is.
If that seems unclear, you might not enjoy the rest of this review. Even understanding what this is doesn’t tell the whole story. It won’t stop people – those who’ve seen it and those who haven’t – from endlessly discussing it, but that’s just how things are today.

Okay, so at first I thought the title, The Drama, was a bit of a joke because the movie starts out feeling super rom-com. We’re right there with Charlie practicing his wedding speech to his friend Mike (Mamoudou Athie), and he basically walks us through how he and Emma met and fell in love. Their ‘meet-cute’ is… well, it’s one of those moments that’s either really sweet or a little unsettling, you know, like a lot of rom-coms!
The movie soon reaches a turning point during the final wedding menu tasting, transforming it into a dramatic and sometimes unsettling story, but one filled with dark humor. If a film’s purpose is to spark conversation, then The Drama certainly delivers, offering plenty to discuss after the credits roll.
What to Read Next
If you’re familiar with director Borgli’s films like Dream Scenario or Sick of Myself, you’ll have a good idea of the movie’s overall feel. The Drama isn’t as sharply satirical as those films, but it offers a unique perspective on a well-trodden topic—one that’s been explored a lot in both fictional stories and the news. It’s not going to appeal to everyone, but it’s definitely unlike anything you’ve seen before.
The film’s success is largely thanks to Zendaya and Robert Pattinson, who deliver captivating performances. Pattinson is perfectly cast as the quirky and endearing character Charlie, and Zendaya brilliantly portrays Emma’s enigmatic nature, which is crucial to the story.

Honestly, I really got into the relationship between the two main characters. It could have been weak, but they made it feel real, and I was totally hooked on whether they’d actually get together. Their chemistry was a lifesaver because the story itself kind of wandered around a bit, trying out different things without really committing to one. It wasn’t always clear where the plot was headed, or what either character would do next, which kept me guessing, at least.
It’s disappointing that the movie becomes more predictable in its final act, falling into familiar romantic comedy tropes. The film introduces some really interesting concepts, so the late-appearing conflict between Charlie and Emma feels unnecessary and surprisingly simple compared to everything else that happens.
This film isn’t going to appeal to all viewers, and those seeking clear answers might find it unsatisfying. It doesn’t offer a simple solution to the core question it explores – and that’s intentional. It’s a movie designed to spark discussion and leave you thinking, and despite its imperfections, we’re always happy to see films that challenge us.

The Drama is released in cinemas on 3 April.
Okay, so the latest issue of Living Legends magazine just dropped, and it’s all about Harry Styles! It’s a huge 100-page, full-color special. I’m grabbing my copy – you can find it at newsstands or order it online if you’re a fan like me!
