Chris Pratt “moved to tears” by new sci-fi movie script
As a seasoned gamer and story enthusiast with a heart for captivating narratives, I must admit that the upcoming Netflix production “The Electric State” has piqued my interest significantly. With the star-studded cast, the intriguing premise, and the pedigree of writers Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, this film promises to be a rollercoaster ride through an original, unique world that is both enticing and thought-provoking.
Chris Pratt has admitted he was “moved to tears” by his new sci-fi The Electric State.
In simple terms, the forthcoming Netflix film features Millie Bobby Brown and is centered around a future where robots and humans coexist. The storyline revolves around a teenage girl who embarks on a journey to locate her presumed deceased brother.
Discussing the screenplay penned by Chris Markus and Stephen McFeely, inspired by Simon Stålenhag’s graphic novel, Pratt remarked at New York Comic Con that it deviates from the typical film production trends we often see today.
He stated, “This isn’t usually the type of story that becomes a major Hollywood-style blockbuster like this one.” However, he added, “It’s remarkably original, and taking such a bold approach is quite the leap.” (via Bang Premier)
I believed that these kinds of films could be my final chance to star in a major production like this, so I seized every chance that came my way. The narrative is simply captivating, and it left me in tears while reading it.
In the story titled “The Electric State“, we follow the journey of Michelle, created by Brown, as she navigates through a world where intelligent robots, designed to look like cartoon characters and mascots, have been banished after their rebellion against humans ended in failure.
She encounters robot Cosmo, controlled by her apparently deceased sibling, in a story that sees them journeying alongside smuggler Keats (portrayed by Pratt) and robot companion Herman (played by Anthony Mackie). Their destination: the Exclusion Zone, a domain where robots hold power.
This week saw the unveiling of the first official trailer for the upcoming film, featuring a rendition of Oasis’ hit song “Champagne Supernova” as its background music.
In addition to Oscar winner Ke Huy Quan, the cast includes Giancarlo Esposito from “The Boys,” Stanley Tucci of “The Hunger Games,” and the Russo brothers who directed for Marvel.
Joe Russo recently shared with Vanity Fair that the project seemed like a tale of fractured families and individuals searching for one another amidst a fragmented universe. It also struck a chord with them, considering they’re parents in a tech-focused era.
In modern times, the narrative might be considered provocative or confrontational. Yet, by presenting it as a parable and distancing it from immediate relevance, we can open up opportunities for readers to interpret it in unique ways.
The Electric State is released on Netflix on March 14.
