Liam Payne's cause of death revealed after preliminary autopsy of the One Direction singer

As a longtime follower of the music scene and a fan of One Direction, I was deeply saddened to hear about the untimely death of Liam Payne. It’s always tragic when talented individuals like him leave us too soon. The details surrounding his death are heartbreaking, and my thoughts go out to his family, friends, and fans during this difficult time.

Reportedly, Liam Payne, once a member of the pop band One Direction and now a solo artist, succumbed to severe injuries and heavy bleeding, both internally and externally, following a fall from a third-story balcony at a hotel in Buenos Aires. This tragic event was confirmed by Argentine officials on Thursday.

According to a statement issued by the Argentinean National Criminal and Correctional Prosecutor’s Office, officials discovered what seemed to be illicit drugs, as well as signs of alcohol and drug use, in Payne’s room.

Five individuals, including three employees from the hotel and two females, were questioned by investigators. Their accounts helped establish a sequence of events during Payne’s final hours, as stated in the report. It was revealed that these witnesses had been in Payne’s hotel room earlier on Wednesday but had departed the premises before he suffered his fall, according to the police.

On Wednesday evening, Alberto Crescenti, head of the state’s emergency medical system, confirmed to local media that Payne had passed away. The British singer sadly succumbed to injuries sustained from a fall, with no possibility for revival, according to Crescenti in Spanish. At 31 years old, his life was tragically cut short.

The authorities are treating this occurrence as a “questionable fatality,” which is standard procedure in Argentina, they stated on Thursday. It seems that Payne was by himself and apparently intoxicated when he fell, according to the statement. Upon examining his hotel room, local police observed numerous broken items and furniture, such as a shattered TV screen, along with drugs and alcohol, among other things.

The statement indicates that medical professionals are awaiting the results of a toxicology report, while preliminary findings from the forensics team suggest no indications of self-defense wounds or signs of suspicious activity.

On Wednesday, Pablo Policicchio, the spokesperson for Buenos Aires municipality’s Security Ministry, stated that Payne apparently jumped from his hotel balcony. This was reported following an emergency call about a potentially intoxicated or drug-affected man causing disturbance. Upon arriving at the scene, police heard a thud and discovered Payne’s body in the hotel courtyard, as shared by Policicchio.

According to a statement released on Thursday, investigators concluded that Payne’s body position and the nature of his injuries suggested he didn’t instinctively defend himself and may have collapsed in a semi- or fully unconscious state. The medical examiner conducted an autopsy on the musician between 9:45 p.m. and 11:05 p.m., local time, at the morgue.

Two weeks following his arrival in Argentina for Niall Horan’s Oct. 2 concert, Payne unfortunately passed away. Accompanied by his girlfriend Kate Cassidy, he had made the journey, though Cassidy departed Argentina earlier this week.

Payne, often recognized by One Direction fans as the more reserved band member, gained significant fame for his contributions to the worldwide hits “What Makes You Beautiful” and “Story of My Life”. He shared the stage with Horan, Louis Tomlinson, Zayn Malik, and Harry Styles. In 2016, a year following Malik’s departure from the group, One Direction temporarily disbanded as its members focused on their individual careers.

2017 saw the debut of Payne’s first single, “Strip That Down,” featuring rapper Quavo. Since then, he has teamed up with artists such as French Montana, Ed Sheeran, and Charlie Puth for collaborations. On his own, he has released songs like “Bedroom Floor” and the latest one, “Teardrops” in March. His only solo album, titled “LP1,” was released in December 2019.

In a YouTube video posted in July 2023, the artist candidly discussed his battles with drug addiction, sharing that he spent 100 days at a rehabilitation center.
