As a seasoned woman who has spent decades navigating through the intricacies of daily life, I must express my dismay at the recent revelation made by Matt Shirvington on air regarding his shower habits. While I can’t claim to have never indulged in such behavior during particularly hectic mornings (we all have our secrets!), I find it rather alarming that this has become a daily routine for him.

Natalie Barr was left disgusted by Matt Shirvington’s disturbing shower confession live on air.

On Tuesday morning’s Sunrise program airing on Channel Seven, a 45-year-old individual confessed that he regularly uses his shower daily for an unusual purpose, which he described as being “guilty” of it.

He assertively stated to his fellow hosts Barr, Edwina Bartholomew, and Mark Beretta, ‘If none of you has ever urinated in the shower, you’re all telling untruths.’

‘Warm water in the shower is my kryptonite. I could pee 100 times before I get in the shower and it just happens again.’

The members of Shirvo’s Sunrise team showed surprise at the on-screen disclosure and started inquiring about his personal hygiene routines, which seemed quite private.

‘In your own shower, it’s a regular thing? … in your own shower? Really?’ a horrified Barr asked.

Never mind that, I’ll confess – I accidentally urinated in the shower. I don’t feel the need to explain the frequency of such occurrences,” Shrivo responded.

Besides confessing to using her shower as a restroom, Bartholomew humorously invited her fellow studio workers to own up to the same “unpleasant” habit by raising their hands.

The topic was sparked after studies showed that urinating in the shower can be bad for women.

A US obstetrician recently went viral revealing that the act could be damaging to a female’s gynaecological health.

Bartholomew mentioned that frequently associating urination with running water might lead to unintentionally straining your pelvic floor muscles when standing up to urinate, which could increase the need to rush to the bathroom more frequently.

In the year 2022, urogynaecologist Dr. Teresa Irwin expressed her thoughts on this topic via TikTok.

She stated that it is both bad for men and woman and explained that while it will empty the bladder correctly while standing up, it also trains your brain to release urine every time you hear water running.

She clarified that you shouldn’t constantly listen to running water since each time you do, your bladder might feel the urge to empty due to its association with hearing water during showers.

Whenever you’re handwashing or doing the dishes, you might feel a strong urge to use the restroom as if your bladder is anticipating the break.

Dr. Alicia Jeffrey-Thomas, a pelvic floor specialist based in Boston, concurred with Dr. Irwin, highlighting the potential harmful consequences associated with urinating while standing under a flowing showerhead.

In a post on TikTok in 2021, she shared that if you urinate while the water is running, it forms a connection in your mind between the sound of flowing water and the need to relieve yourself.

If your pelvic floor isn’t sufficiently robust, it might cause problems like unintended leaks when you hear water running outside the shower, she explained.

Not to mention people born with female anatomy ‘were not designed to pee standing up’.
