British rapper and YouTuber Yung Filly charged with raping woman in Australia

As a supporter who has followed Yung Filly‘s journey from YouTube to music stardom, I must say that this news is truly disheartening. It’s hard not to feel a sense of shock and disappointment when someone you’ve admired turns out to be involved in such serious allegations.

UK-based YouTube personality-turned-rapper, Yung Filly, is facing charges for allegedly raping a woman in September following his performance at a nightclub in a suburban area of Western Australia.

On Thursday, the Government of Western Australia declared that a man was apprehended in Brisbane earlier this week and subsequently transported to Perth for a court appearance related to sexual assault accusations. The allegations encompass four instances of rape, three incidents of causing physical harm, and one instance of obstructing someone’s breathing or circulation by applying pressure on or to their neck, as stated in the press release.

A spokesperson for the 29-year-old hip-hop artist, whose real name is AndrĂ©s Felipe Valencia Barrientos, has yet to provide a response to The Times’ inquiry for comment. Similarly, the Western Australia Police did not promptly respond to The Times’ request for further details.

It is alleged that Yung Filly sexually assaulted a woman in her twenties in his hotel room in Perth on September 28, following a performance he gave at Hillary’s Bar1 Nightclub the previous day. The Instagram posts of the club show that Yung Filly, who is known for his songs “Grey” and “Tempted”, performed there on September 27 as part of his Australian tour, which also encompassed shows in Melbourne, Sydney, and Gold Coast. Yung Filly made a stop at Bar1 Nightclub during this tour.

Lawyer Seamus Rafferty SC pleaded for bail on behalf of Yung Filly in Perth Magistrates Court, as reported by the BBC.

Born in Colombia and currently residing in southeast London, Yung Filly began producing online content during his teenage years. However, it was his “Asking Awkward Questions” YouTube series that brought him widespread recognition. Yet, even with his YouTube stardom, this social media personality expressed to Hunger Magazine in 2022 that his true passion has always been music.

He expressed, “The music speaks to me in a way that’s hard to put into words, but I believe anyone listening can sense my deep passion for it. My understanding of it is almost unique, making it challenging to find someone who shares the same depth of connection.

Yung Filly boasts over 1.8 million subscribers on YouTube and 3.2 million followers on Instagram. He’s also worked on various projects, including hosting BBC Three’s “Hot Property” series, and he made an appearance on Channel 4’s “The Great Celebrity Bake Off” Stand Up to Cancer fundraiser special in 2022.

Yung Filly and social media star Chunkz won the media personality prize at the 2021 Mobo Awards.
