Nick Knowles reveals major health update and addresses his Strictly future after pulling out of Movie Week due to an injury

As a seasoned viewer of Strictly Come Dancing, I must admit that my heart skipped a beat when I saw Nick Knowles missing from last Saturday’s show. With over two decades of DIY SOS under his toolbelt, this man has shown us time and again that he’s a master of tackling challenges head-on.

On Wednesday, Nick Knowles shared some significant news about his involvement with Strictly Come Dancing, following his absence from the previous live show due to an injury.

On last Saturday, the star of DIY SOS, aged 62, who dances with professional partner Luba Mushtuk, had to skip Movie Week performances due to a shoulder issue. Later, during rehearsals, he fell and sustained an injury on his knee.

It’s undecided at this point if Nick will step back onto the dance floor this week, and the host has confessed that the final choice is still up in the air.

He shared an update with fans both on his Instagram account and during an appearance on It Takes Two alongside Luba.

In the Instagram clip, he shared with followers: “Today I got a wonderful piece of news! I’ve just been given the all-clear by the physiotherapists to resume training tomorrow at It Takes Two.

The final word on Saturday isn’t set in stone just yet. I need to see how things unfold tomorrow, after which a decision should be made by Friday.

Of course, I’ll keep you informed throughout our progress. Just wanted to express my gratitude for the kind messages and support I’ve received so far. Fingers crossed, I’ll be dancing by this coming Saturday!

Later on, during an interview with Janette Manrara on the spin-off show of the BBC dance competition, It Takes Two, Nick shared a detailed account of the events that transpired on Friday.

He explained: ‘We’d had a great week learning the dance and we were doing the camera tech rehearsals where the cameras get to see how the dance works and everything.

In the final move of the dance, I arrived a bit late and instead of following correctly, I jumped and landed with only one leg while the rest of my body passed through the intended position.

‘Had a bit of a collapse and realised it wasn’t in a good position. I hurt my knee basically.’

He said something positive by noting, ‘Each day seems to improve a bit. To be truthful, things didn’t look great on Friday. Saturday wasn’t much better, but I had a scan and we decided to wait until Monday to examine it.’

On Monday, things felt a bit more intense, but today I had the opportunity to meet with the physical therapists, and with assistance from all the rehabilitation and physical therapy professionals as well as medical doctors, I’ve been given the green light to attempt some dancing tomorrow for training purposes.

As a lifestyle expert, I’d say, “I may exercise tomorrow, but that doesn’t mean my fitness journey ends there. I’ll assess my performance the next day, and for now, that’s all I can predict about the future.

On Friday, the pair will finalize their decision, and Luba conveyed to Janette: “Tomorrow, let’s give it a shot, let’s proceed with care, and see what we can accomplish and what we cannot. Afterward, we’ll fine-tune our approach based on that.

“Let’s proceed gradually, finding what feels right and perhaps identifying what feels awkward. Together, we’ll build it up.

It comes after fans worries intensified when he was not included in the list of this week’s songs and dances that are always announced the Wednesday before the next live show.

The show’s Instagram page did say however: ‘We will update with more news on Nick when we have it.’

As per BBC guidelines, a couple can take a break for one week because of an injury, but after that, they need to exit the contest.

Nick shared that he felt disappointed, having not been able to participate in Strictly last weekend, as he spent his Saturday evening watching the performance on crutches instead.

He expressed on X: ‘Disappointed not to join everyone dancing tonight, but I’m supporting them from the couch in my best outfit!’

To start off the program, hosts Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman shared with the audience that due to a special privilege, contestant and his dance partner, Luba Mushtuk, would skip the current round and advance directly to the next stage in the competition.

Tess explained that unfortunately, Nick Knowles and his partner Luba won’t be present as Nick got injured during rehearsals and can’t take part in the performance tonight.

Claudia added: ‘As per the rules of the competition, he will receive a bye into next week’s show.’

Apart from the entire group, Claudia expressed affection towards Nick and hoped for his swift healing, an act that earned her a round of approval.

Nick’s social media platforms were filled with heartfelt good wishes, as fans hastened to share their get well soon messages with him.

Strictly Come Dancing continues at 6:20pm on BBC One on Saturday.
