Ed Wheeler dead at 88: Law & Order, Blue Bloods and Broadcast News actor passes away

As an ardent admirer of Ed Wheeler, I find myself deeply saddened by the news of his passing. This man was not just an actor to me, but a beacon of inspiration and resilience. From his humble beginnings in Brooklyn to gracing our screens with his talent and charisma, he truly embodied perseverance, creativity, and kindness.

88-year-old actor Ed Wheeler, recognized for his work in shows like Law & Order and Blue Bloods, has sadly passed away.

As a devoted admirer, I tragically learned that Messeret Stroman Wheeler breathed his last on August 21, succumbing to respiratory collapse brought about by intricate complications of pneumonia, according to his wife’s account, as shared by Deadline, at Englewood Hospital in New Jersey.

In her statement, she expressed that his life demonstrated resilience, innovation, and the strength of giving and compassion. She further stated that even though he will be greatly missed, his impact – a source of inspiration – will endure, inspiring many future generations.

In a touching Instagram post accompanied by a lovely picture of Ed, Wheeler expressed, ‘Your skills, devotion, and enthusiasm were unrivaled – whether performing live, on screen or off stage. From national advertisements to the prestigious Negro Ensemble Company, you left an indelible impact that was appreciated.’

My dear Honey Ed, you weren’t merely a public persona; you were a beacon of guidance, a pillar of support, and an essential piece of my heart.

She summarized it as follows: ‘To everyone who knew Ed, I want to express my gratitude for the love and backing you’ve given me throughout this difficult period. Let us cherish his memory by recalling the happiness he bestowed upon us and the significant imprint he made on the world.’

‘Rest in peace, My Honey. You will always be in my heart.’

He was featured prominently in numerous advertisements on a national scale for well-known companies like Luvs diapers, Reynolds Wrap, Sudafed, Pepcid AC, and Computer Associates, as reported by Deadline.

Wheeler made his early television appearances in shows like Watch Your Mouth, 3-2-1 Contact, and The Core of the Apple.

In 1987, he made his first appearance in a movie, sharing the screen with William Hurt, Albert Brooks, and Holly Hunter, in the highly praised film “Broadcast News,” directed by James L. Brooks.

Later on, Wheeler was featured in several movies such as Presumed Innocent, Daylight, Mickey Blue Eyes, and Head of State.

From 1992 to 2004, Wheeler graced several episodes of Law & Order, along with various well-known shows like Ed, Soul Food, Third Watch, New York Undercover, and Hope & Faith.

His final TV appearance came in a 2010 episode of Blue Bloods.
