Southern Charm alum Olivia Flowers is ENGAGED to fiancé Alex Williams following ‘surprise’ proposal in NYC
As I ponder over Olivia Flowers’ poignant words, it strikes me how life’s twists and turns can sometimes leave us reeling. Her journey, marked by loss, love, and the complexities of life, is a testament to human resilience.
After approximately a year of dating, Olivia Flowers accepted a proposal from Alex Williams in a surprise event that took place in New York City last September. This means they are now officially engaged.
Previously dismissed from the Bravo series “Southern Charm” at age 32, this actress started dating Williams around May of the previous year, having initially met at a wedding held in Texas.
As reported by People, Alex proposed to Olivia towards the end of last month, specifically on September 25, in the Meadow Terrace Suite at the JW Marriott Essex House. Notably, Olivia’s parents were also involved in the romantic gesture.
Preparations for the proposal started around a month ago, just prior to when the TV personality embarked on her trip to New York City for Fashion Week in September.
In a secret trip, Williams journeyed to South Carolina instead of being in Dallas with Olivia. His purpose was to ask for the approval of Olivia’s parents before proposing to her.
Alex shared with People that Olivia has a remarkable circle of friends spanning from elementary school to college, and she maintains a strong bond with her parents. Given this, I understood that including her loved ones in some way would be particularly meaningful for her.
I desired for her to experience an overwhelming amount of affection and joy, as a result of the unexpected display of love from those who care about her deeply.
He mentioned that Robin, her mother, came up with the plan to propose during their trip to New York for the Project Lyme Gala, where Olivia was scheduled to speak.
Unfortunately, plans had to change suddenly as a United Nations meeting was happening at the hotel on the day Williams intended to propose.
Alex mentioned that the hotel staff, along with our friends and family, were incredibly adaptable and handled the changes in the plan seamlessly.
He told Olivia, ‘we had a work event to go to at one point and then I changed this to a luncheon, then I got her brand manager involved and made her thing it was a photoshoot for the hotel.’
Although things got a bit chaotic due to Olivia being extremely occupied with her Project Lyme presentation, she had no time for anything else at all.
On September 25 in the afternoon, both Alex and Flowers made their way to a room at the hotel where a photographer was waiting to film content for social media.
In simple terms, Olivia shared with People that her partner is her greatest cheerleader when it comes to content creation. So, when he became involved in the big day, it felt natural and sweet to her.
Instead of thinking it was a regular interaction, I assumed it was a business partnership with the brand since he brought in his social media manager. As a result, I switched on my professional mindset.
As she was adjusting the perfect photos on her phone, she unexpectedly thought back to when Alex reached into his sports coat, took a box, knelt down, and then dropped her phone.
Alex expressed, “You are Olivia Barbara Ellen Flowers, the one who’s been appearing in my dreams as the ideal woman. Over time, you’ve grown to be the cherished companion in my life. Would you consider becoming my wife by marrying me?
Flowers jokingly shared with the media, “In retrospect, it’s quite worrying how much I missed, but it turned out to be quite a delightful series of unexpected moments.
Her friends and relatives, who were already at the hotel, quickly joined the room following the TV personality’s affirmative response. They gathered together to rejoice in the special moment that ensued.
Afterwards, the celebrations continued with a dinner at Trattoria Dell’Arte in the heart of NYC.
Upon returning to Dallas, the duo savored another festive dinner at the Ritz Hotel in Las Colinas, where their parents were also present to share in the celebration.
Olivia first met Alex when she accompanied her father to a wedding in Texas last year.
In his father’s absence, it was Williams, the usher, who kindly stepped up to guide the reality star along the aisle instead.
Back in May this year, the stunning woman celebrated their first anniversary and shared a post on Instagram.
Apart from posting a couple of pictures of them, she wrote in the caption, ‘Upon my tardy arrival at a wedding (and stumbling on the church steps), I encountered a charming usher who guided me to my seat.’
‘Later, that same usher asked my date (my dad) if he could dance with me… A year later and we’re still dancing (and tripping up stairs) Cheers to stage 5 clinging.’
Previously, flowers were romantically connected with Southern Charm cast member, Austen Kroll, and their relationship became public knowledge around 2021.
In season 8, their relationship unfolded, yet they parted ways prior to the reunion episode.
This summer, I’ve found myself confirming that I won’t be part of the cast for the upcoming 10th season of Southern Charm.

Later on, she disclosed that a contributing factor for her getting let go from the Bravo show was due to her relationship with Alex, who resided in Dallas.

It appears from your Instagram posts that you’re currently in Texas and have a new partner. It seems like you might be embarking on a new journey or making some changes in your life.
Flowers explained that instead of seeing it as taking a new route, she simply feels like she’s going with the flow of life. Coincidentally, her parents have recently relocated to Texas, and the relationship development was quite unexpected.
I was genuinely delighted… you know, he turned out to be the highlight of that entire year for me. However, if I’d known his presence was causing misunderstandings or giving others the impression that I was veering off course, I would have appreciated clearer communication.
Olivia went on to say, ‘What I’m saddest about is that I didn’t get another chance for self-expression. Last season was tough, and I was merely trying to stay afloat.’
I eagerly anticipated enjoying another round, as it would give me an opportunity to express myself more authentically, display my unique character, forge fresh relationships, and delve into those connections.
In early 2023, regrettably, Flowers suffered a tragic loss when her brother, Conner, passed away at the age of 32.
In November of the same year, it became public knowledge that he had passed away due to an unintentional fentanyl overdose – a fact confirmed by Flowers to People magazine at the time.
She shared that her deceased brother developed an addiction to prescription drugs as a means to manage the symptoms of his Lyme disease.
As a devoted sibling, I found that my brother was reluctant to discuss his health struggles. Surprisingly, there were many individuals, including those within our intimate circle, unaware of his Lyme disease diagnosis.
Once more, upon learning that Conner passed away due to a fentanyl overdose, it’s common to jump to the conclusion that he was a partygoer. However, this couldn’t be further from the truth about Conner. This tragic incident was actually a relapse. It was his desperate measure to survive.
Additionally, she remarked to the media outlet, ‘My brother was incredibly vibrant and enjoyed uniting people; in fact, he seemed to make friends effortlessly wherever we went.’
Regardless of our vacation destination, we’d always head to the hotel lobby for breakfast, where he was well-known by name. Standing tall at 6 feet 5 inches with a heart as vast as the ocean, he was a striking figure of kindness and beauty.
She stated that his treatment for Lyme led to his addiction and said, ‘It’s just heartbreaking. There are these holes in the healthcare system, and my brother fell into one…’
