As a longtime admirer of Blue Bloods and its illustrious cast, I can’t help but feel a sense of nostalgia as the show winds down after an impressive 14-year run on CBS. The series has not only entertained us with gripping stories about the Reagans and their lives in law enforcement, but it has also provided a glimpse into the importance of family values that resonate deeply with many viewers.

Tom Selleck shared his disappointment after CBS cancelled his longtime TV cop drama Blue Bloods.

Last year, it was reported that the popular TV show would conclude this autumn, and the 79-year-old actor shared his feelings of discontent about this choice during a recent conversation with TV Insider.

I’ve been feeling a bit vexed lately. Instead of discussing the conclusion for Blue Bloods after the past eight episodes, I find myself focusing more on its ongoing success.

He remarked, “Out of the Top 100 Shows from 2023-2024, when you exclude the three sports shows focused on football, our show ranks 6th!

He stated, ‘I feel frustrated because the show was often underestimated since it succeeded right from the start.’

He added, ‘I won’t transform into an old man grumbling, “Stay off my grass!” I don’t endorse holding grudges, but if you were to suggest to the television network something like, “Here’s a show you can air at your least popular time, and it will ensure you win Friday nights for the next 15 years,” it would be nearly unbelievable.’

‘So how do I feel? It’s going to take a long time to sort all of this out.’

After the weekend when we filmed the last episode, I mentioned, “Tonight I need to go to bed early as I have lines to record tomorrow.” However, there was no tomorrow. It seems it will simply take some time.

After spending 14 years traveling between the East Coast for work and his California ranch, Selleck reportedly returned home permanently with his wife Jillie Mack (age 66). The reason behind this move was that the show he had been filming was abruptly stopped by CBS executives at the end of last year.

Selleck openly expressed his discontent upon learning that Blue Bloods was wrapping up production, and following the announcement made last year, he expressed hope that the producers might reconsider their decision.

Despite finishing the filming of the series, viewers can look forward to seeing the actor during the culmination of its 14th and last season. The final episodes will commence on October 18.

Previously recognized for his roles in Magnum P.I. and Friends, Selleck garnered a massive following due to his portrayal of Frank Reagan, a fictitious NYPD commissioner in the series, Blue Bloods.

Since September 2010, he has shared the screen with Donnie Wahlberg, Bridget Moynahan, and Will Estes. When the show was cancelled, he expressed his belief that viewers would respond angrily to the decision.

‘CBS will find an awful lot of people aren’t ready to say goodbye to it,’ he said at the time.

The program is more well-received than ever before, and I predict that viewership numbers will rise even further with the heightened curiosity this year. Rest assured, we still have plenty of creative ideas up our sleeves.

Over a span of 14 years, the well-liked TV show known as “Blue Bloods” aired on CBS, completing a total of 14 seasons. This series managed to rank as the second-longest running scripted program on CBS, surpassed only by NCIS which has an impressive 21 seasons under its belt.

The series premiered September 24, 2010.

Blue Bloods revolves around the Reagan family, with Frank serving as the head of the household and holding the position of Police Commissioner in the New York City Police Department.

Frank’s child, Danny (portrayed by Wahlberg), serves as an NYPD Detective, while his other child, Jamie (played by Will), holds the rank of NYPD Sergeant. His daughter Erin, portrayed by Bridget, works as an assistant district attorney.

His son Joe was killed by a corrupt cop in the line of duty.

Last year, Tom released a formal declaration about the conclusion of Blue Bloods: “For the past 13 years, it has been both an honor and a privilege to contribute to a series that not only salutes the brave men and women who safeguard New York City, but also underscores the significance of family.

In my own words, the TV personality went on saying: “It’s been an absolute joy working with such talented actors, scriptwriters, producers, directors, and the entire crew. Being a part of this exceptional team for more than 275 episodes has truly felt like a dream come true, and I’m deeply grateful for the experience.

“Blue Bloods will always hold a cherished place in CBS’ history.

On Friday evenings, it has been unrivaled in popularity since its debut, becoming a cornerstone of our successful programming due to its extremely loyal fanbase.

They noted that they will always be indebted to the acclaimed Leonard Goldberg for creating this iconic series, and to the outstanding ensemble headed by Tom Selleck, whom America adopted as kin and invited to dine at the Reagan household.

In May, Tom disclosed that the aftermath of Blue Bloods wrapping up might potentially consume his golden years at the ranch.

As a seasoned professional in the entertainment industry with a successful run spanning several decades, even landing a lucrative $200,000-per-episode gig on Blue Bloods, I found myself unexpectedly facing financial struggles following the show’s cancellation. This revelation came to light during an interview on CBS Sunday Morning.

In response to a question, Selleck mentioned, ‘I hope to continue working enough so as not to lose my position.’ To this, CBS correspondent Tracy Smith asked, ‘Really, is that a concern if you were to stop working?’

In simpler terms, Selleck mentioned that if he were to stop working, there would still be an issue to consider. He added that financially, he would be secure, but perhaps not to the extent of affording a 63-acre ranch.
