Wendy Williams ex-husband Kevin Hunter demands divorce be overturned – claims she ‘hid $48MILLION from him’ in settlement
As a seasoned observer of celebrity lives, I must say, the saga between Wendy Williams and her ex-husband, Kevin Hunter, is nothing short of captivating. It seems like every time I turn on the news or scroll through my social media feed, there’s another twist in this dramatic tale.
In simpler terms, Kevin Hunter, Wendy Williams’ former spouse, is asking for their divorce to be cancelled because he alleges that she secretly withheld approximately $48 million during their divorce proceedings.
60-year-old TV host, who has just spoken out about the Diddy sexual exploitation probe, got married to Hunter in 1999. Their marriage ended and was officially divorced in January 2020.
Following a petition made earlier this year by Sabrina Morrissey, who acts as Wendy’s guardian, Kevin has now submitted a request to the court. This request stems from a demand that Hunter repays an excess amount of $112K in alimony that was paid out to Wendy unintentionally.
According to documents from The U.S. Sun, the producer has requested the court to nullify and correct their divorce proceedings, citing deception, false statements, and unacceptable behavior as the grounds for this action.
In 2019, Williams initiated the process of divorcing Hunter, stating ‘insurmountable disagreements’ as the reason. At that point, her legal representative presented a financial statement from Wells Fargo, claiming her net worth to be approximately $7.3 million in assets.
Meanwhile, Regina Schell, a confidant of the star, submitted an affidavit claiming that by the year 2022, there was approximately $55 million in Williams’ bank accounts.
Because of the affidavit, Kevin asserts that Wendy intentionally hid an extra $48 million during their divorce proceedings, which he believes was done fraudulently.
Nevertheless, in reaction to Hunter demanding a reversal of the divorce, it was asserted by Sabrina Morrissey, Wendy’s guardian, that Kevin had knowledge about all of her financial accounts.
Morrissey clarified that he couldn’t comment on what Regina might have observed or heard herself, opinions from another individual about the same event, or any information that person might have shared with Regina. (The U.S. Sun)
In his writings, Kevin clearly asserts that Wendy presented Regina with her financial records.
Sabrina went on to say, ‘Kevin wasn’t present, so he doesn’t have any firsthand information about whether this incident happened or not.’
In addition, she stated that during their divorce proceedings, Hunter was completely content, well-informed about the process, and had sought advice from experts to ensure he fully grasped the assets involved and his rights concerning those assets.
Morrissey then added Wendy’s ex-husband ‘has absolutely no case to reopen the divorce proceeding.’
Over the summer, Regina submitted an affidavit claiming that she had reviewed Wendy’s Wells Fargo bank statements. This information is reported by The U.S. Sun.
The TV personality’s best friend also claimed that in July 2022, she had resided with the star.
Back then, I was absolutely thrilled when she hinted at exploring new investment opportunities for her estate, and even more so, when she mentioned the possibility of switching banks. As an ardent fan, it’s fascinating to see such a legendary figure contemplating financial changes!
Besides showing me the documents, she additionally disclosed that the total accumulated balance in her Wells Fargo account was approximately $55 million.
In December of the same year, Regina asserted that she was invited to a gathering at Bank of America with Wendy.
Later on, she journeyed to a courthouse along with the TV host and her guardian, Sabrina Morrissey, in the same car.
Yet, Wendy’s publicist later suggested they had heard Morrissey say there was no funds in Wendy’s bank account.
Regina turned in the affidavit in regards to Williams and Hunter’s divorce proceedings.
It’s been raised if Morrissey, who practices law in New York, is permitted to handle Williams’ case in New Jersey as well.
21 days have been granted to Sabrina by the judge, during which she needs to demonstrate her legal authorization to act on Wendy’s behalf in the state of New Jersey, as reported by The U.S. Sun.
In the court records, Hunter stated that Morrissey acting as Williams’ lawyer is similar to practicing law without proper licensing, as she has not been admitted to the bar and has not been officially appointed as a guardian by any New Jersey court.
Wendy and Kevin started going out together back in 1994, and they got married in 1999. Their son, Kevin Hunter Jr., was born in August of 2000 when he was 24 years old.
Even though he had no background in TV, Hunter took on the roles of his wife’s manager and production partner quite early in their relationship. Over time, he played a significant part in getting her talk show off the ground, serving as its executive producer.
In essence, by April 2019, approximately 20 years into their marriage, Williams decided to initiate a divorce, listing ‘insurmountable disagreements’ as the reason. It wasn’t a secret that Hunter was embroiled in multiple infidelity controversies.
In January 2020, their divorce became official, happening only two months prior to when the World Health Organization declared COVID-19 as a pandemic.
In April of this year, Morrissey Wendy’s former husband returned the alimony he believed was excessively paid to him.
As per a court case submitted to the Superior Court of New Jersey, it’s stated that Morrissey is asking her ex-husband Kevin Hunter to repay an amount of $112,500 which she claims was excess alimony paid over a period of three months, as reported by People.
However, in a subsequent legal rebuttal, Hunter requested that the ex-talk show host, who once hosted daytime programs, settle overdue spousal support payments amounting to 23 months from their divorce settlement.
In May of 2022, the court-appointed guardianship responsible for managing both my ex-partner’s finances and health took over, following which she ceased making alimony payments to me prior to this date.
In my professional opinion as a lifestyle advisor, I’d put it this way: According to Morrissey, if Hunter’s annual earnings surpassed a specific benchmark set by Williams, she was eligible for severance pay.
Nevertheless, following her prolonged absence as host of The Wendy Williams Show during its previous season, Team Williams argue that Hunter no longer qualified under the terms of the contract, leading them to demand the return of any excess payments made to him, inclusive of accumulated interest.
According to Morrissey’s statement in the lawsuit, he thinks the primary cause was because the payments were automatically processed through a feature called ‘autopay’ in her account.
Since 2021, her residual income hasn’t been substantial; it is significantly less than half of the income she had in February 2020 and also in October 2021.
As per the court documents, it’s stated that Ms. Williams received two payments post her departure from the show: a single payment worth $1,952 in February 2022, followed by another small payment of $59 in January 2023.
According to the lawsuit filed by Morrissey, Hunter was entitled to a severance payment as part of their divorce settlement. However, this agreement would be nullified if Williams’ annual income in subsequent years failed to exceed twice her salary as of February 1, 2020.
Apart from the ongoing monetary disagreement, Morrissey is additionally trying to implement a confidentiality clause on Hunter, restricting him from discussing matters related to the Williams case.
In March, a judge made Morrissey the subject of a financial guardianship following a request by her bank, Wells Fargo, for a hearing at the New York Supreme Court to discuss whether such action was needed because of Morrissey’s health issues.
She disputed the allegations and accused her former manager and a Wells Fargo financial advisor of impropriety.
As someone hailing from Asbury Park, New Jersey, I’ve faced my fair share of health challenges throughout my life. Battling addiction and thyroid concerns have been part of this journey.
In February 2024, following extensive medical evaluations, Wendy decided to share her health status publicly. According to Page Six, she disclosed that she had been diagnosed with Frontotemporal Dementia and Primary Progressive Aphasia.
In the year 2018, it was revealed that Williams had been dealing with Graves’ disease, a condition known for causing hyperthyroidism, a health issue she had been diagnosed with approximately 20 years earlier.
One characteristic feature of her thyroid issue is noticeable hair loss, leading her to wear wigs for a prolonged period.
2019 saw the announcement by her foundation about setting up a helpline for substance abuse issues, causing speculation among fans that she might have suffered a relapse in her sobriety. However, soon afterward, Williams openly disclosed that she was residing in a home focused on maintaining sobriety.
By the end of 2019, it was disclosed that Williams had been diagnosed with lymphedema, a health issue leading to swelling in her ankles.
