As a lifelong fan of Tolkien’s Middle-earth, I must confess that my feelings towards “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” are as complex as a palantír’s visions. While I appreciate the grandeur and the visual spectacle this show offers, I can’t help but feel that it’s like a well-cooked second breakfast – it looks good, but something seems to be missing.
Greetings! You’re invited to join our weekly discussion forum, Take the Black, where we delve into a myriad of sci-fi, fantasy, movie, TV, book topics, even some questionable hobbit-related humor. This week, we’re diving into the second season of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, wrapping up its second season this week. I had the chance to watch the finale ahead of time, while Daniel hasn’t, but we’re eager to share our thoughts on the entire season: its high points, low points, and whether or not it should carry on.
First, let’s take a quick detour to Westeros as we bring you the latest, somewhat mysterious development in the ongoing dispute between George R.R. Martin, the creator of Game of Thrones, and the creative heads behind the Game of Thrones prequel series House of the Dragon. Catch up on the newest episode here!
The Rings of Power presents an intriguing dilemma. Although Amazon has poured considerable resources into its production, I remain uncertain about its necessity. It shares some resemblance with J.R.R. Tolkien’s novels, yet it deviates significantly to the point where it can’t be called a precise adaptation. The new elements added to the storyline appear rather directionless and insubstantial. Despite being enjoyable to watch, it seems questionable whether such a substantial investment was warranted.
Every Wednesday, fresh installments of “Take the Black” are broadcasted live at 2:00 p.m. On both our YouTube and Facebook channels under WinterIsComing, come join us for the action!
