New Nosferatu trailer smartly keeps Bill Skarsgård's Count Orlok to the shadows

As a seasoned gamer and connoisseur of dark, atmospheric narratives, I can hardly contain my excitement for Robert Eggers’ upcoming masterpiece, Nosferatu. Having delved deep into the eerie worlds of The Witch and The Lighthouse, it’s safe to say that Eggers knows how to weave a tale that both chills and captivates.

The creator of “The Witch” and “The Lighthouse”, Robert Eggers, presents his new film, “Nosferatu”. This movie will hit theaters in December. Eggers’ adaptation is his unique interpretation of the classic 1922 German Expressionist short, which, together with Bram Stoker’s “Dracula”, has significantly shaped the timeless imagery and folklore associated with vampires.

One significant contrast between these powerful beings is Count Orlok’s profound sense of melancholy and solitude. These characteristics are being emphasized in this film by director Eggers, along with a complex psychosexual angle. Actor Bill Skarsgård has spoken about his portrayal as “eroticized” and his aim to provoke mixed emotions in viewers. The trailer released on September 30 offers a clearer glimpse into what the movie will offer.

Additionally, the trailer skillfully maintains an element of mystery by only giving glimpses of Bill Skarsgård as Count Orlok, keeping him shrouded in shadow, a chilling specter and constant ominous presence for Ellen Hutter (Lily-Rose Depp), rather than revealing his full form.

Focus Features portrays “Nosferatu” as a story centered around an intense fixation, where Depp’s character and Count Orlok are the primary figures in this obsession. The narrative hints at Count Orlok developing feelings for Ellen, yet it seems that the trailer suggests Ellen may harbor reciprocal feelings towards Orlok, which is consistent with Skarsgård’s previous statements. In the original version of the film, Ellen essentially acts as a lure to vanquish the monster.

Trailers may sometimes mislead, so an appearance of Ellen yielding to the creature might not reflect the actual truth. However, I’m eagerly anticipating director Eggers’ interpretation of the story. If anyone can delve deeply into complex emotions and subtly portray hidden desires, it’s certainly him.

As a gaming enthusiast diving into the world of movies, I’m excited to share that along with the trailer, Focus Features has given us a sneak peek into the film’s soundtrack. This musical masterpiece is crafted by Robin Carolan, and you can get your hands on it starting November 22. Two tracks, “Goodbye” and “Increase thy Thunders,” have already been released. Give them a listen right here, and don’t forget to pre-order the soundtrack for future enjoyment!

As a devoted movie enthusiast, not only do I look forward to the captivating performances by the legendary actors Johnny Depp and Gustaf Skarsgård in Nosferatu, but I’m equally thrilled about the presence of other talented stars gracing the screen alongside them. This star-studded cast includes Nicholas Hoult, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Emma Corrin, Ralph Ineson, Simon McBurney, and Willem Dafoe. Their collective talent promises an unforgettable cinematic experience!

Nosferatu will be released in theaters nationwide on December 25.
