aspas reportedly decides to leave Leviatán for VALORANT’s 2025 season
As a long-time follower of Valorant esports, I can’t help but feel a pang of sadness and curiosity about aspas’ potential departure from Leviatán. The Brazilian star has been a consistent performer for the Argentinian team, and his decision to leave seems to be a complex one.
According to reports, Aspas is expected to depart from Leviathan before his contract expires in 2025, and he’s currently in talks with other teams.
Previously, Erik “aspas” Santos indicated his intention to depart from the Argentine team Leviatán. However, recent developments suggest that he might be moving forward with this decision. As per the Brazilian esports site VSpace, aspas has chosen to leave Leviatán and is currently in talks with other teams.
Contract Clauses
In 2023, Aspas agreed to a two-year deal with Leviathan FC, allowing him to remain with the Argentine team unless another club fulfills a termination fee (the details of which are unspecified) or if Aspas sees out his contract, which he’s stated won’t occur. However, one may wonder about the origin of the dispute between Aspas and Leviathan FC.
Dissatisfaction with Leviatán’s organization
At the start of this month, Aspas expressed unhappiness with the organizational structure of the Argentinian team, particularly emphasizing that his input on sports-related decisions, such as player or coach hiring, was not valued. However, Leviathan disputes these claims, stating that Aspas’ opinions were indeed considered in various situations.
Controversy with nzr and the new Leviatán’s coach
Some individuals believe that Aspa’s thoughts about departing began after the exit of Argentine coach Augustin “nzr” Ibarra, as Aspa and the coach had a strong bond. His departure from the team didn’t sit well with Aspa, who also expressed hope for the possibility of playing together in the future.
In May, Spanish coach Alex “Goked” Kie chose to part ways from the team as well. The idea was then put forward by Aspas to recruit Daniel “FroD” Montaner, an American-Cuban coach who previously played alongside him on LOUD. However, it turned out that FroD had already committed to MIBR.
What is the next step for aspas?
Over the coming weeks, Leviatán and Aspas will hold discussions to decide the upcoming fate of one of today’s top VALORANT players. It’s possible that Aspas may remain on the Argentinian team, but given his open expressions of discontent, this scenario seems unlikely.
At some point, aspas also expressed his desire to live in Asia and play in VCT Pacific, which could bring some new options to the table. However, there’s still no information about what teams could be interested in the Brazilian player.
