Olivia Munn, John Mulaney welcome baby No. 2 after her cancer diagnosis, hysterectomy

As a movie lover with a soft spot for heartwarming stories, I can’t help but be moved by the beautiful journey of Olivia Munn and John Mulaney. Their resilience and determination to expand their family despite facing such a formidable challenge is truly inspiring.

Olivia Munn and John Mulaney recently welcomed their second baby, born approximately six months after Munn disclosed that she underwent the removal of her uterus and ovaries as part of her battle against breast cancer.

On Sunday, through an Instagram post, the actors known for their roles in ‘The Newsroom’ and ‘Everybody’s in L.A.’, respectively, announced the birth of their child, who arrived via surrogate. The announcement comes after Munn shared her emotional journey battling cancer, which seems to have inspired their family expansion.

On September 14, 2024, the year of the dragon, Munn welcomed Méi June Mulaney into the world,” read the caption of an Instagram post that showed Munn, Mulaney, and their newborn daughter Méi seated on a hospital bed. Notably, “Méi” translates to “plum” in Chinese.

The actress from ‘X-Men: Apocalypse’ expressed deep feelings about not being able to give birth to her daughter herself. She continued to post more pictures of Méi’s first appearance, saying, “When I first encountered our surrogate mother, we connected as mothers. She displayed such kindness and compassion towards me, and I realized I had found a genuine angel. My words fall short in expressing the depth of my gratitude for her taking care of our baby for nine months and making our dreams a reality.

She expressed her pride in her small pet dragon that managed to join them, writing, ‘My heart is bursting with joy!’

As a proud dad at 42, I too posted a hospital photo on my Instagram and included a short video of our daughter playfully spitting up on me while I was burping her. Sharing similar sentiments with my wife’s caption, I expressed: “We managed to swipe so many things from the hospital! My little girl means the world to me.

44-year-old Munn announced in March that she had been diagnosed with luminal B breast cancer following genetic testing in February 2023 as a precautionary measure for her health. This diagnosis resulted in four operations within a span of 10 months, which included a double mastectomy. In May, around Mother’s Day, Munn disclosed to Vogue that she also had a hysterectomy and bilateral oophorectomy. However, prior to these procedures, she underwent an additional egg retrieval via IVF, resulting in two viable embryos that could potentially allow her and Mulaney to grow their family if they decide to do so.

She got married to Seth Mulaney, whom she initially encountered at the wedding of Seth Meyers (a former “Saturday Night Live” cast member) and Alexi Ashe in 2013, in July following three years of being together. Their relationship started in the spring of 2021, and they were blessed with a son named Malcolm Hiệp in November 2021.

On Monday, neither Munn nor Mulaney’s representatives provided a prompt response to The Times when they asked for comment.
