What to know:

  • Anchorage Digital, a U.S.-regulated crypto bank, will add support for the Tron blockchain, starting with institutional custody for TRX, the network’s native token.
  • The integration provides institutions with a compliant way to hold TRX and will be expanded to include TRC-20 assets and native TRX staking.
  • The move brings Tron, a major network for stablecoin transactions, into Anchorage’s institutional framework, offering a bridge between traditional institutions and the crypto ecosystem.

Anchorage Digital, the first cryptocurrency company to receive a U.S. banking license, announced it will now support the Tron blockchain. This begins with secure storage services for TRX, Tron’s own cryptocurrency.

The announcement allows financial institutions to securely hold TRX using the company’s platform and its self-custody wallet, Porto. Support for TRC-20 tokens and direct TRX staking will be available soon.

Tron has quickly become a major hub for transferring stablecoins and other digital currencies. According to data from DeFiLlama, the amount of stablecoins on the network has consistently increased over the past three years, reaching $86 billion. This represents over 25% of all stablecoins in circulation.

Anchorage is presenting its new system as a way for established financial institutions to safely connect with the popular world of cryptocurrency payments. According to CEO Nathan McCauley, this update essentially brings a major part of the crypto world under the rules and regulations of traditional finance.

We’ll be introducing features gradually. First, we’re enabling support for holding TRX. After that, we’ll add support for TRC-20 tokens built on the Tron network. Finally, we’ll offer staking options for institutions, allowing them to earn rewards by helping to secure the network.

Anchorage works with many popular networks, including Ethereum, Bitcoin, and Solana. It also supports leading layer-2 networks like Arbitrum, Optimism, Base, and Linea, as well as other major layer-1 networks such as Avalanche and BNB Chain.
