Imogen Anthony shares devastating message she received from Aussie PR guru Jai Evans before his tragic death

As I delve into the rich tapestry of Jai Evans’ life and career, I am struck by both the magnitude of his accomplishments and the depth of my admiration for him. A titan in the Australian PR industry, he was not just a publicist, but a master networker, a creative visionary, and a shrewd businessman.

Imogen Anthony has disclosed the heart-wrenching communication she exchanged with Australian public relations expert Jai Evans prior to his untimely demise.

On the 36th floor of the Horizon complex, designed by Harry Seidler, a well-known Sydney resident was discovered deceased last Wednesday in his upscale apartment.

The cause of Evans’ death in his $1400-per-week two-bedroom rental remains a mystery, although the NSW Police Force said it was not believed to be suspicious.

After the heartbreaking announcement, an outpouring of tributes has been pouring in for the well-known publicist, and Kyle Sandilands’ former girlfriend has now expressed her deep sorrow.

As a devoted admirer, I shared on my Instagram stories a heart-wrenching message that the Australian model, aged 33, had received from Evans prior to his untimely demise. This poignant message served as a testament to their connection and bond.

As a devoted admirer, I couldn’t help but reach out to Anthony personally, expressing my concern after noticing some troubling posts on her social media platforms. I felt compelled to ensure she was alright.

The message read: ‘Hey honey. Its Jai. Just saw ur posts and wanted to check in on you and make sure you’re OK. Times can be tough but I will OK honey (sic).

‘I’m always here if you need me and have a spare room in the city if you need too xx Jai.’

The exact time isn’t clear, but Anthony posted the message on a Friday, specifically a week following when the initial report about Evans’ passing became public knowledge.

She added some emotional words as she paid tribute, writing: ‘This shook me. I’m so sorry Jai… please rest in peace.’

Many people, both friends and acquaintances, have shown disbelief and sorrow upon hearing about Evans’ passing. Numerous individuals have utilized social media platforms to honor him, describing him as a “legend in PR” and an “exceptional professional.

Last Wednesday, authorities found Evan within his luxury rental apartment at the Horizon complex situated in Darlinghurst.

A representative from the NSW Police announced: ‘Police officers assigned to the Kings Cross Police Command will compile a report about the passing of a 43-year-old individual, which occurred at a residence in Darlinghurst on September 4, 2024, for the Coroner’s consideration.’

‘Police will not be making any further comment about the matter.’

The exact reason for his death remains undetermined, as police on the scene reported no signs of anything unusual or potentially suspicious.

When the police declare a death as non-suspicious, it simply implies that they’ve uncovered evidence suggesting no external party was involved in the incident, and therefore, no crime seems to have taken place.

According to a source who spoke to Daily Mail Australia, it was reported that Evans became less sociable in the period leading up to his passing. Friends and acquaintances noted that this behavior was unusual for him, as he would occasionally disappear for extended periods without any contact, which was unlike his usual self.

Prior to his passing, he found himself in a tight spot regarding a significant client, requiring him to produce results. He was constantly operating under stress, the source added.

In the weeks leading up to his passing, he seemed detached. He would disappear for a while, which was highly unusual for him.

Since the early 2000s, Evans, well-known in the city’s entertainment scene, seemed distressed and deep in thought during a farewell meal with companions in Potts Point on August 22. This was approximately two weeks prior to his passing.

At that dinner gathering, Evans – known for his charismatic way with words – commented humorously that he felt the need for a beverage, given his recent discussion about maintaining sobriety.

Regardless of his extensive experience and achievements, reports suggested that he was struggling to acquire fresh clientele.

According to reports, Evans allegedly grumbled to his confidants that he was displeased because other publicists were attempting to take care of his work (grass-cutting) and poach his clients.

Evans had more than two decades of experience and success in the public relations industry.

In the year 2005, he established a company called Evans Media all by himself. Since then, he’s collaborated with numerous media firms, offering guidance on their public relations tactics.

In the course of his illustrious profession, Jai took on various roles including advertising manager, PR specialist, magazine publisher, editor, and more – effectively covering all aspects of public relations.

Evans aided numerous significant figures in the Australian media sector, such as Channel Nine, Sky News, News Limited, BRW, and Vogue, in reaching their marketing objectives.

Additionally, the skill specialist was well-connected, with an impressive circle of friends such as model Lara Worthington and online retail queen Anastasia Fai Kogan.

He also briefly had an acting career, appearing on Home and Away in 1997.

Previously, fellow publicist Roxy Jacenko, known for her prominence in Sydney’s PR world around the same time as Evans, had commended him as an exceptional networker.

She stated that he was similar to me, belonging to the latest generation of Public Relations specialists. He was always accompanied by the most attractive group of women at events and was constantly open to trying new things.

Among his final public relations tasks, he aided Duncan James and Evelyn Ellis in the aggressive start of their off-screen romance following their participation as paired individuals on Channel Nine’s dating program.

Previously this year, he offered guidance to Pedestrian regarding potential difficulties that Might-Be-Married-At-First-Sight participants could face when thrust into public attention.

In plain terms, ‘Evans stated that navigating social media can be especially challenging for people who’ve been involved in controversies on Married at First Sight.’

I completely get why they might tread carefully when I’m around; my past could potentially raise some red flags, making it seem like I’ve got a questionable reputation. Brands and businesses are cautious about associating with someone who might appear less than trustworthy.
