Longest CS2 Map – M80 beat Fnatic after 71-rounds

As a seasoned CS:GO fan with years of experience under my belt, I must admit that the recent ESL Pro League match between M80 and Fnatic has left me absolutely spellbound! The 71-round marathon on Anubis is undeniably one for the history books. It was like watching a nail-biting tennis match, where every point mattered, every inch counted, and the tension never wavered.

71 Rounds, 8 OTs, and a mid-map break.

The ESL Pro League continues to break one record after another. Following Donk’s incredible 38-kill performance against Wildcard, a new milestone was reached at this event. In a game that stretched over 71 rounds, M80 outlasted Fnatic on the map Anubis, establishing a new record for the longest CS:2 match ever played.

From the beginning, it was clear that both teams were evenly matched, as indicated by the map. Initially, M80 claimed victory in the opening rounds of the first half, but Fnatic quickly countered in the subsequent gunfights. In the second half, they traded positions to end up tied at 6-6 each. As overtime began, it became a tight battle with neither team gaining a significant advantage; they continued to trade points inch by inch. Fnatic eventually gained a match point, but M80 responded immediately. The North American side managed to push the score to 18, only for Fnatic to drive it back into another overtime.

MOUZ and Imperial wrap up an entire series during Map 1

The simultaneous match between MOUZ and Imperial in the ESL Pro League continued after the M80 vs Fnatic game had ended. However, by the time MOUZ’s team completed their Best-of-Three series, which included an overtime round, the game on Anubis was still underway. By this stage, there were already excited discussions on Twitter about a potential new record for the longest CS2 map ever played. In the end, the match lasted more than 2.5 hours.

The game had an unusual intermission during its progress, which isn’t common – usually, breaks occur between matches or extended ones between Map 3 and Map 4 in a Best-of-5 series. However, this particular match included a pause at Round 60, an instance rarely seen in CS2 maps. Regrettably for both teams, the contest wasn’t concluded after 71 rounds of play, suggesting that two more maps might still be ahead in the series.

Previous Longest CS2 Map Record

Previously, the record for the longest competitive match in LAN events was held by a game between TYLOO and The Mongolz that lasted 54 rounds on Inferno. However, a recent match between teams on Anubis has surpassed this record, lasting an astonishing 8 overtimes and 71 rounds, making it the new record-holder in terms of length. This record-breaking performance dethrones the previous contender, Zero Tenacity vs Rhyno at Elisa Fall Invitational 2024, which saw those teams play 64 rounds on Vertigo.

Ultimately, Team M80 clinched the win with standout contributions from players Fritz “Slaxz-” Dietrich and Ethan “Reck” Serrano. The pair both tallied a remarkable 58 kills. On the other hand, it was the French teammates of Fnatic, Alexandre “bodyy” Pianaro and Aurélien “afro” Drapier, who took the unexpected lead.
